Ex subway worker sinks $140,000 life savings into campaign advertising the end of the world...but don't worry you have until next Saturday

A retired MTA employee has pumped his $140,000 life savings into an ad campaign warning that the world will end on May 21.

Robert Fitzpatrick, a follower of the notorious California Evangalist Harold Camping, has posted his Doomsday message on 1,000 subway car placards and at bus shelters throughout New York city.

The foreboding advert reads: 'Global Earthquake! The Greatest Ever - Judgement Day: May 21,' above a night time Jerusalem skyline and a clock ticking towards midnight.

Speaking to the New York Daily News, 60-year-old Mr Fitzpatrick said:'I'm trying to warn people about what's coming.

6. "...trying to warn people about what's coming..."
Too bad nobody warned HIM about what would be coming if he spent his life savings and then the Rapture DIDN'T happen. He's gonna be one of the cat-food-eatin' crowd for the next couple of decades......

9. Pay no attention to this. These are just a few fundamental christians and do not represent all
christians. Please stop persecuting christians, why can't you be more tolerant?

WTF, you ask? Well, haven't you been paying attention to the forum lately? Calling it like one sees it is disrepectful.

 I know.

10. He's not the only one.
As part of my usual weekend Recreational Xianity dosage, I've read quite a bit about Harold Camping-It-Up and his merry band.

One story mentioned families - with KIDS - who donated most of their money to the Apocalypse PR campaign. They've carefully budgeted the remaining money so they have just enough to eat until May 21.

So when the sun comes up on May 22, those families will be flat broke. And I'm pretty sure Brother Camping does not give refunds.

Or as somebody smarter than me once said: "Religion is the only business in the world with customers who blame themselves for a product failure."

BTW, did you know Gay Pride Was Planned By God As A Sign Of The End Times?

One of the many amazing things I learned at Harold Camping's website:

11. If financial shenanigans like that were practiced in any other industry
The man would be in jail for defrauding his investors. But because it's religion, he gets a pass? WTF? Seriously. What. The. Fuck...

then I agree.

14. Is that midnight Jerusalem time, or midnight Eastern Standard Time?
I need to know when to expect God's wrath, so that I'm not flying in a plane or something with a Christian pilot who might be raptured away or something.

If the the KJV is the literal Word of God in the original English, then wouldn't God's clock be calibrated to GMT?

18. The estimate I saw said it starts at 6 PM Pacific time...
I don't know how that was calculated, and don't care to go dredging in the sewers of Harold Camping's alleged mind to find out.

IIRC, the first earthquake is supposed to start then. I live in Los Angeles, so it better be a whopper of a quake. Otherwise, we're so used to the ground shaking that we'll completely miss the big event.

20. Poor fellow.
As P.T. Barnum said long ago of such people, 'there's one born every minute'. But Campling seems to be a much more destructive conman and exploiter of human gullibility than Barnum ever was.
