The New Prophets: "We Can Do The Same or Greater Things Than Jesus"
Submitted by Kyle on October 15, 2010 - 2:56pm

C. Peter Wagner is widely regarded as the man responsible for the New Apostolic Reformation which gave rise to the self-proclaimed prophets and apostles like Lou Engle, Cindy Jacobs, Jim Garlow, Lance Wallnau, Rick Joyner, Chuck Pierce, and the other Dominionist/7 Mountain advocates who are slowly working their way into the Religious Right mainstream.

For months, I have been trying to hammer home the point that when these activists refer to themselves as "prophets" and "apostles" on par with Jesus, they mean that literally.

And just to drive home that point, here is audio of Wagner speaking during the Generals International webcast earlier this month as he explains how, through the Holy Spirit, people like himself can perform miracles that outshine even Jesus Christ himself:

3. Exactly, I'm not a religious person, but I remember that quite well from
my religious education. I also remember and practice the good things about religion, not this RW nutty stuff.

6. See my thread that madmax linked to below.
The true secret when it comes to figuring out what prophets are true or not...

They're all false prophets. At least from the viewpoint of an atheist like myself.

8. It seems reasonable to me. With their faith they can move mountains,
but they happen to prefer the mountains exactly where they are right now.

9. Of course we can!
We can cure leprosy.

We can cure those who are possessed by demons.

We can raise the dead.

We can even instantly turn water into a delicious grape drink.

10. Didn't Christ say in the Bible that all I do, you may do also?
That faith the size of a mustard seed will move mountains?

It's time for Christians to consider the teachings of the Christian Scientists. "Powers", or "miracles", may become more obvious in the coming years. Also know that not all who exhibit them are interested in the good of mankind! Beware of exclusionists and seekers of power. "Know them by their fruits".

Take the Bible as a mystery school text, and Christ as an empowerment teacher regarding the true nature of spirit and matter, and things fall into place.

16. My 92 year old aunt is a Christian Science Practitioner.
She said sometimes prayer works and sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea how often it works, because she has a hellish temper.

One minute she would scream at me for something I did wrong (like open the front door for some fresh air when it was 80 degrees in the house and there was snow on the ground outside) and then five minutes later tell me how wonderful I am and what a good person I was. I was sitting at her dinner table crying after that little ass reaming.

I can't handle people with those kinds of mood swings so I have not contacted her since that incident about opening the front door, several years ago.

Really nuts.

11. Read Rudolf Bultmann. The NT can be explained by science.
He said we can explain all the healings and miracles in the NT with science, so there needs to be nothing supernatural there.

Secular humanists believe people can do great things WITHOUT invoking a God. Like going to the moon and back, and rescuing the miners in Chile. Using our education and smarts and knowledge.

13. Okay, fine.
"Jesus exercised no power of or by himself. We can do the same or greater things than Jesus did because we have access to the same power source."

Great, you're the fucking distributor. Just cut to the chase and tell me what it's gonna cost me to get a piece of the action.

14. Hmm....
He's making a bold claim. I'll venture to say that he's never been moved to heal the blind or raise the dead. While he probably has a perfectly sound reason why he's never been called to do that, I would tend to think he's claiming a bit more authority than he's actually entitled. Of course there's no money in just working to bring souls closer to the good news of the Gospel Message so he has to move into politics. Money flows much more freely in the political arena as long as you can deliver your base to the polls. Jesus had some of his harshest words for people who turn His Father's house into a profit center.
