3. Just my personal opinion....
not all people who choose to believe in God are idiots. I am also curious as to why it is so common on this board to mock Christianity but do not see the other religions mocked the same way.....do they not all believe in something that cannot be proven? What makes Christianity more 'stupid' than being Muslim or Jewish or any other for that matter?

4. I have friends on DU who are Christian
and even though I'm an atheist I cannot imagine mocking them.

7. That is exactly my point.....
I would no more mock my Christian family members than I would my family members that are Hindu. It is THEIR choice and THEIR belief system.

21. Not that believers determined to take offense care...
...but there is a difference between mocking particular beliefs and mocking the people who hold them. I see much more of the former and not so much of the latter around here.

6. I think just for clarification...
The book title isn't saying that people who believe in god are idiots.

The book title is directed, in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, toward people who FEEL they are idiots because they don't know much about god and faith.

It's the same as for any of the "Idiot's Guide To....." books.

I mean, there are so many ways this could be taken...

13. And you know my intent .... how, exactly? Divine intervention?
It was posted without comment. Then heavy handedly moved here, to this forum that has a particular population that will flame (stone?) this thread to death.

Fact: The fucking book exists and is aimed at idiots. In case English is unclear to you, it does NOT say Christians are idiots.

Get over yourself.

18. That wasn't coy. That was right straight at you.
You have no idea what my intent was. You applied your bias and your filter and your notion based on your experiences.

Maybe I *did* mean to mock. But you don't know that. You can only assume it until I tell you otherwise.

24. do feel free to explain yourself, if you feel misunderstood
perhaps you are incredibly impressed by the cover artwork?
perhaps you find this a wonderful book that you hope everyone will read?
perhaps you bought stock in the company and want people to buy the product?
perhaps you thought a bit of flamebait would provide some nice sturm-und-drang?

19. LOL!
So if "no comment" = "comment" is that the same as atheism = religion?

Just wondering how far this twisted bit of logic goes.

9. Thank you.
You are correct. I just see so much on DU about the 'stupidity' of people who believe in God. Like anything else or like any other religion, there are those that go to extremes but, the vast majority do not.

20. If it makes you feel better, I mock ALL religions -
except, possibly, Buddhism which is kind of squishy in fitting the definition.

If the focus is on afterlife, ghosts, supreme beings - yeah, they're all nonsense.

to which people cleave and on which assorted religions are based.

As far as I'm concerned, God has not yet communicated to us what he/she wants from us. But somehow, I DO know that he/she wants us to be good to each other and treat each other with respect.
