Evangelizing Xians can be so obnoxious.

They approach you, uninvited, to tell you how wrong you are not to believe exactly what they believe. That you’re going to hell, and they’re going to heaven.

That they’re SAVED, but you’re not, and that makes them so superior to you. They may not say that but the implication is clear.

That you’re bad, and they’re good, and they’re just so superior to you in every way...

And they think they're doing a "good" thing by behaving this way!

Who in the world would be attracted by that? Somebody who seriously needs counseling, I’d say.

PS--I’m had some bad experiences with evangelizing Xians, as you can probably guess.

1. ask them how much money they have given to their church so others can be "saved".

Always fun.

I usually just tell them to get the fuck off my doorstep afterward. Sure I'm an asshole...but I embrace it and only use my asshole powers for good.

11. Any liberal/progressive who has a spine can be that Kryptonite.
We just have to stop putting up with their BS and loudmouthery. Slap them down when they come crawling with their parroting "talking points" with no substance behind them.

2. Me too in the bad experience department but
they have a bad experience too and its usually real short.

When they start, I say you can thank me now. They look bewildered, thank me for what. For serving in the military so that you are free to attempt to overturn the constitution of the United States. I usually end the sentence with a slammed door. Some want to be persistent though. Had to run two off my property but that was a long time ago.

3. Ignorant people always need to feel superior by some artificial means.
Bigotry is one way they feel 'superior'. And religion is the other.

5. Their religion demands both converts and martyrdom
so they bring the good news about Jebus to people who have been hammered with that good news by the majority religion in this country since infancy as insurance that their ticket is punched for heaven. Deprived of loincloth clad savages with spears, they go after the accountants and bus drivers in their neighborhoods.

They cling to the notion of their oppression and martyrdom because the entire world has failed to conform to their ideal of all Jebus, all the time, wherever they go.

Since they don't come near me any more, night nurses being rabid when awakened by someone leaning on the doorbell to bring the good news, I have the luxury of feeling sorry for most of them. The frustration of living in a predominately Christian country with so few potential converts must be extreme.

10. I have been vastly entertained by the beatific martyr's smile
worn by one of the ten "child trafficers" arrested in Haiti this week. While I concede that their motives were probably not malicious, their "divine" right to act as they saw fit does not supercede the laws of man... even in a crisis.

If though I am asked an opinion of them I am not shy though. I also love my Kubuntu Netbook and say the same about Linux if asked.

Is that wrong?

16. How's Kubuntu been lately?
I'm writing this from my Gentoo laptop, and frankly, compiling EVERYTHING from source is getting old. I need something just as shiny and bulletproof, but faster to install. I tried Ubuntu back on Hoary Hedgehog, and ended up migrating away because I couldn't find apt repositories for everything I needed.

14. Listen to some fundie radio, if you can stomach it...
You'll often hear the attitude that Xians evangelizing is not offensive, but all other conversion attempts are. There is some damned amazing delusional thinking going on there.

On my way home from work here in Los Angeles, I often tune in to the local fundie powerhouse, KKLA-FM. And yes, they just need one more "K" in that call sign to make it more accurate.

The other day I heard a guy say that trying to convert people to Islam is wrong, because it is a "false religion." But trying to convert people to Xianity means you're trying to HELP them, so that's a good thing.

I almost drove off the road and hit a light pole when I heard that. (I'm an atheist.)

Just yesterday, some kook who runs a "gay conversion" ministry was bragging that he outed three of his gay friends in college. He seemed amazed that were pissed off at him about that. In his own words, he told them they would probably die of AIDS and burn in hellfire for eternity. Unless they took advantage of his God's wonderful eternal love...

But he was only trying to help!

:banghead:

18. If one accepts their premise, then it is a moral imperative ...
...to save as many souls as humanly possible. Who cares about social acceptability when you are in danger of eternal torment. So yes, they are annoying, but that is only because they believe some horrific things. And since those beliefs do not allow them to consider that you might have a different, valid point of view, they see no alternative but to "make" you accept it.

... and was even admired by the Protestant John Calvin who said of Gregory that he was "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Gregory_I">the last good pope."

- Which if a Protestant says as much about a Catholic in the heat of the Great Schism, then it pretty much exposes the perversity and utter obnoxiousness of both those religions as far as I can see....

With Christmas lights wrapped around them too, and lit up at Christmas.

I don't have a six foot tall implement of torture and death in my front yard, thank you.
