Christians win major battle in the war on Christmas ((((enjoy it while you can))))
They might have won this battle, but you wont win the war!.

CHRISTMAS TREE RETURNS IN KENTUCKY

On November 3, we noted that the “War on Christmas” had begun. One piece of evidence that was offered was the decision to have a “Holiday Tree,” instead of a “Christmas Tree,” in Frankfort, Kentucky. But after getting pounded by outraged Christians, Gov. Steve Beshear has reversed himself: both he, and the state government, have now chosen to call the Christmas Tree the “Christmas Tree.”

Christians have every right to be insulted when agents of government refuse to acknowledge their holiday, and it matters not a whit if the stated purpose is inclusion. Indeed, the politics of inclusion is a malignant cultural cancer that needs to be wiped out, along with its parent ideology, multiculturalism.

Congratulations to Gov. Beshear can be extended by contacting his director of communications, Jill Midkiff:

1. They may have won that battle--but they will NOT win the war.

2. I love the Yule log morphed into a tree with lights on it
and if the crazier Christians insist on mislabeling it a Christmas tree, that's their problem.

I hope they keep freaking out over such utterly ridiculous non issues. Every time they do, it marginalizes the crazy ones a little bit more as sensible people continue to get disgusted with them.

3. Pounded by outraged Christians
That sounds so, so, biblical.

All for a pagan symbol.

9. Don't start with the persecuted Christian BS again.
This "War on Christmas" bullshit is exactly the opposite of Christians being persecuted; it is Christians attempting to force their faith and their holiday on everyone else. So the posts here are not about "hat{ing} Christians," but rather about expressing frustration for the xenophobic and radical tendencies of the psychopathic Fristians.

12. Read this thread. It goes way beyond, "Isn't this silly." It always does.
Christians are not persecuted, and, yes, the War on Christmas is total bullshit. But, then, so is the never-ending DU war on Christians.

19. Point to one. I don't see it.
I see several posters bitching about the actions of certain Christians, and how this seems par for the course for such assholes as Bill Donohue, but I see no "I hate Christians" statements, nor do I see anything that would approach that level of venom.

You're jumping to conclusions, and ascribing motives and feelings to posters that have not been discussed or even implied. I suggest that you have a Coke and a smile and STFU.

15. When they behave like that, I do.
And it's no fun at all, I wish they would just go away or get raptured or whatever.

You're free to help enable their wallowing in their persecution complex though, if that's what makes you happy.

6. Hear Hear......We should go back and undo Multiculturalism from Colonial Times....
Edited on Mon Nov-23-09 09:20 AM by Burma Jones
Let's start by kicking out the Catholics, an early and terrible example of the great forbearance exhibited by the most excellent and Protestant early British colonizers of this great land. The politics of inclusion are what brought you to this shore.......dimwit.

How's that, Bill Donohue and your nasty little Catholic League?

8. All over how the tree was NAMED? Oy vey.
But, hey, these are same types of people bitching about same-sex MARRIAGE. Some don't mind it as long as it's called a CIVIL UNION but call it a MARRIAGE and one would think you'd started a whole new Inquisition.

Probably would have gotten themselves burned at the stake.

23. Let's celebrate...the first War(s) On Xmas!
1644 - the English Parliament passes a law saying Xmas should be a "day of penance" rather than a feast day.

Well, that sounds like fun. Cough... But apparently it didn't work out:

1652 - celebrating Christmas in England is banned both in and out of church.

Well, holiday revelers could always scram for the New World, the Shining City On A Hill where freedom reigned...

1659 - Massachusetts Bay General Court bans Christmas celebrations. Scofflaws are fined.

Overall in America, Xmas wasn't a big deal until fairly late in the 19th century. e.g., the city of Boston didn't officially recognize Xmas as a holiday until 1856, and celebrations were still (at least officially) banned in parts of New England at that time.

American Southerners seemed to be ahead of the curve, celebrating Xmas with parties and gallons of 'punch' before the rest of the country caught on.

27. The "war on Christmas" is just a battle, but
there is definitely a war on between organized atheism and religion, and Christianity in general.

31. Really?
What are the battles? Where are they fought? What is the goal of each side? What is your source?

If you're referring to billboards and the occasional legal challenge, it's a bit more than an exaggeration to call it a war.

26. That's Par For The Course For Those Asshole Bigots
Just the fact that fundies hate someone saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" is all the more reason to be using it. Other religions have holidays around this time of year and I intend to use "Happy Holidays." Christ Almighty! The Catholics and all the other fundies have gone batshit insane. On a comments page to an article on the "Manhattan Declaration, one fundie told me that I have no rights and that, like it or not, I belonged to Christ and that his request that all should come to him was not an invitation, it was a command. WTF are these peoplle SMOKING?!

29. You took these 2 verses out of context.
You left out:"and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel" and Jer 5:10 "Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk.

It is speaking about carving idols out of a piece of wood and covering it with gold or silver.

30. Your complaint is with RusselsTeapot.com.
The image is theirs, not mine. It even says so in the upper right corner.

BTW: It goes <Chapter>:<Verse>, not <verse>:<chapter>. Jer 5:10 (KJV) says "Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's." Jer 10:5 (NIV) says "Like a scarecrow..."
