For the Bible tells me so
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 04:45 PM by Christa
Rarely have been so angry, so cross, so mad and so disgusted at religion and the the church.

I just watched http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0912583/>For the Bible tells me so and I had to stop watching about 80% through. I just could not take it any more.

http://www.forthebibletellsmeso.org/indexa.htm>Watch it here. It is supposed to offer hope, healing and understanding for parents with gay children. It won numerous http://www.forthebibletellsmeso.org/index2.htm>prizes and I guess for parents in that position it offers a glimmer of hope, those times when they are not afraid that their child will be killed by these religious zealots who preaches hate right out of the Bible and from the pulpit.

"Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity."

What it clearly showed me again is how poisonous religion is, how hateful the church is and how hate, anger, resentment, violence and fear is sanctioned by the church. It is acceptable to hate the gays, it is authorized by the church right out of that horrible old hate filled book, the bible.

One of the most hateful people is James Dobson; the ultra right religious idiot with no psychological knowledge or background who teaches families and friend of gay people NOT TO ACCEPT them. He validates the rejection and desolation many gays and lesbians feel with his scriptural nonsense.

I again realized how important it is that we continue to speak out against religion, against the church and against the Bible. In our own small way we may make a difference in the people persecuted by religion and by the church.

1. I understand your anger but the evil Christians (the Evilgelicals) are misinterpreting
The Bible or picking and choosing random quotes here and there to try to make their point. You're never going to win a fight against The Bible, or Christianity for that matter because this same shit has been going on for thousands of years. Instead we should focus our energies on pointing out to Christians where they're wrong specifically and to what Jesus and The Bible REALLY are about.

2. And what is Jesus and the Bible about?
About a lying, murderous god who had his own son cruelly tortured and killed, who sanctioned the deaths, the destruction, the rape and the incest of everyone he disliked?

6. Loves me
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 05:11 PM by Christa

He can take that love and shoves it where the sun doesn't shine, thank you very much. If he (supposedly, as I don't believe a word of that book of lies), loved his own and only son so much that he had to torture and kill him, then I don't want to know what he will do with me.

I hate the whole idea of a god. :grr:

8. I totally agree...

The power mad, belligerent, masochistic, petty, woefully insecure, extremely dangerous and unpredictable (and seeming not to intelligent) god exhibits all the worst attributes of man.

7. Um...can you please tell me what any of that has to do with Jesus?
That's all old testament. Jesus didn't advocate any of that.

9. So now we cherry pick?
We discard the Old Testament but accept the new testament?

There are just as many hateful verses in the NT as in the OT. It is in the NT that god had his only son tortured and killed. Hate is preached throughout the bible.

What about Jesus promoting the idea that all men should castrate themselves to go to heaven: "For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." Matthew 19:12 ASV

And what about Infidels and Gays Should Die

So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved. When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They are forever inventing new ways of sinning and are disobedient to their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and unforgiving. They are fully aware of God's death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway. And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. Romans 1:24-32 NLT

10. Isn't Jesus, supposedly God Himself?
 He does all this stuff in the OT so in the NT he gets a pass? And BTW, he's still promoting the same things from the OT:

Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

12. Now that you ask, here is a few...
Jesus says that we should fear god who is willing and "able to destroy both soul and the body in hell." Matt. 10:28

Jesus condemns entire cities to dreadful deaths and to the eternal torment of hell because they didn't come for his preaching. Matt. 11:20-24

Jesus tells us what he has planned for those that he dislikes. They will be cast into an "everlasting fire." Matt. 25:41

Etc., etc., etc.

18. actually, it is the philosophy of Paul of Tarsus, a man who hunted
Judeo-Messianic people, including Jesus, to put them to death, had a 180 degree turnaround and then hijacked a movement to meet his own version of what he believed to be true.

Jesus never believed he was God or God's son. That is Paul making his religious views interesting to Hellenists and people who already worshipped a godman/son in Horus and others. God who made this world beautiful and all of us the way we are supposed to be isn't the God displayed in the Bible. Don't get hung up on Pauline Christianity. Even the original Messianic movement hated him and his ideas (LIAR! -they called him that and he whines about it in his letters.)

Jesus and the Biblical Christ are not the same person.

20. Bingo! I think we have a winner!
The mythical Jesus was an ignorant shit head. I don't see that there is anything at all to like about the guy, let alone anything that would inspire worship.

"Real" Xianity is a horrible thing built upon human self loathing.

3. I rejected Jesus when I was 7 because ...
I was told by a lady "If you don't accept Jesus you will go to hell." I thought to myself..ugh!! He must be a nasty man to force himself on me.

"He died for you". Yeah, right. I didn't ask for a human sacrifice.

Today I am happy to be free of this belief. There is no Jesus. Romans invented him to control the mass, forcing Jesus on people or be killed, and for money, too as religion is a great business. Jesus was made up of several gods.

Time for people to undo this belief nonsense that has been fed to them for centuries.

16. Can't we just declare religions Child abuse ?
I was terrified of God while I was growing up (and I'm not even Catholic).
The Judeo Christian values seem to me to be:
Guilt
Pain
Suffering
Endless chastisement
Atonement
Unworthiness
Self-hatred
Hatred of anyone different from you
Superiority of a select few
Lying (even God can't keep his story straight, Banishment, flood, seven 'plagues', Christ - how many more 'last' chances?)

I vote we ban all religious instruction until maturity.
