13 year old daughter made an interesting observation abour Satan today!
My whole family are Atheists.

But my 13 year old daughter asked me today...

"Why does everyone think hell is a bad place? If satan hates god and god sends you to hell because you make god mad, then why would satan treat you bad? If satan hates god and god sent you to hell because he was mad then satan would be glad you made god mad and treat you good in hell."

I thought it was a good point.

2. Hell is not a bad place. And Satan is not such a bad guy. He
just won't turn on the a/c. Which I don't mind at all. I live part time in Palm Springs, so I'm used to it. I planning on enjoying hell. And I'll have fun aggravating Satan when I don't mind the heat.

6. Sizesaurus by Stephen Strauss.

If I could find my copy, I'd excerpt it, but since I can't I'll just repeat a conclusion from the introduction that using Biblical accounts, Heaven is hotter than Hell

5. I heard a story about the Christian Missionaries getting so frustrated while
attempting to convert the native Alaskans because they couldn't scare them with threats of hellfire and damnation. Then they realized that a warm, hot place for eternity probably seemed enticing to these c-c-cold folks! Ha!

Your kid is a sharp one -- using logic (which has no place in most organized religions). I wish more people would question these things.

8. I believe you'll find that story here:
Eskimo: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?"

Priest: "No, not if you did not know."

Eskimo: "Then why did you tell me?"

9. Its like "The Cremation of Sam McGee".
http://litterature.historique.net/service/mcgee.html

"There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee."

10. Very smart child. Give her extra candy this Halloween.
- And I must say that I'm thankful that all of mine know it's a fairy tale as well.

So, when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, if you go for all these fairy tales, that "evil" woman convinced the man to eat the apple, but the apple came from the Tree of Knowledge. And the punishment that was then handed down, the woman gets to bleed and the guy's got to go to work, is the result of a man desiring, because his woman suggested that it would be a good idea, that he get all the knowledge that was supposedly the property and domain of God. So, that right away sets up Christianity as an anti-intellectual religion. You never want to be that smart. If you're a woman, it's going to be running down your leg, and if you're a guy, you're going to be in the salt mines for the rest of your life. So, just be a dumb fuck and you'll all go to heaven. That's the subtext of Christianity. -- Frank Zappa

12. Another thing you might wonder about
If a fundie thinks sitting around praising Jeezus is heaven, and I think sitting around praising Jeezus is hell, then will we end up sitting next to each other in the afterlife?

16. just tell her it's all Bronze Age Goat Herders Superstitions, and there isnt anything to it. Genesis
is all bits and pieces of old Sumerian stories the meanings of which were lost over the centuries., i mean literally small parts of longer stories that actually make sense. there was serious climate change at the time of Abraham, who's father was an idol maker, he stoled one of his fathers idols on the way out, god of prosperity. they were never slaves in Egypt, they were a mercenary army protecting the NW part of the Nile Delta for hundreds of years. a new Pharaoh who wanted them to also build roads and infrastructure there to get his moneys worth, that pissed em off and they split. they looted some villages on the way out for provisions. that is why the Egyptian army went after them. the sea wasn't parted, moses lured the Egyptian army into a tidal estuary, they simply got stuck in the mud,

those bible stories really got blown out of proportion being retold so many times over a blazing camp fire of goat turds. all the angel stuff, Satan.. adam/eve, noah, .. all of it are just parts of old sumerian stories.. it can happen quickly, the grand children of the people who built the Roman structures in England, didn't know who used to live in the ruins... how fast will Democracy be forgotten after the ReThuglicans fuck up everything..??

18. The mythology of Satan is an interesting one, to be sure.
* He's been called Lucifer, meaning "light bringer."
* He didn't want to mindlessly follow god.
* In the Garden of Eden, if we assume he was the serpent, he is the one offering knowledge and enlightenment, whereas god wants Adam & Eve to remain ignorant, docile, and subservient.
* He supposedly hates and opposes god, but is actually working in concert?

Crazy, silly stuff.

Though I would use a different nomenclature, I agree with her in most regards and with my own addendum: I think it all happens right here. Everything that ever was, is, or will be is all encoded into Now.
