Televangelist I heard on Sunday
OK, I wake up on Sunday morning, far too early to crawl out of bed.
I reach over and flip the TV on and the Sunday morning smorgasbord of tele-preachers is blasting away. No surprise right?
Well before I could change the channel, I hear this one start to talk about the holy city of Jerusalem and how when the Lord returns, the entire city will raise 375 miles in the air. Yes he said 375 miles, How he knows this I do not know but he believes.

I quickly flip the channel to the next tele-preacher who is going to save us all. This one was talking about how things happening in the world today are fulfilling the prophecy and the time is near. My thought was that this is one of those neo-cons that claims they are in bu$h's front pocket. I am dumb enough to sit there and see what B.S. this guy is belching. It is not the invasion of Iraq or anything the US is doing but instead, according to this moron, things happening in Germany today are leading directly to the fulfillment of some prophecy. He went on about how bad the Germans are, after all they did start 2 world wars and the end was near.

I turned the TV off and rolled over.
I have no idea who either of these creeps are but what scares me is that people listen to this and believe it.

1. Germans are pretty well ruined
in our media, permanently. The French used to be considered somewhat okay, but they're now classified as subhuman as well.

And, of course, Arabs can be equated to some mutant race of outer space aliens who have landed on the planet is a most inconvenient place, very strategicially located atop all OUR oil.

The image war is all the controllers needed to win. Fed a 24/7 diet of propaganda against these various groups, all that's needed is to give a Pavlovian signal to the masses. Mind control in America is more effective than at any time in any other place in the world.

2. Someone needs to explain to me...
how these two nutballs (and plenty more) have their own TV shows on major networks, yet Christians are supposedly oppressed in America today.

3. $$$$$$$
They get bankrolled by some Neo-con nut job who has more money than he can spend with a whacked out agenda.
Then our "LIBERAL" media sells the time that no one wants anyway.

4. So not only do Christians have a lock on Sunday morning TV,
they also have wealthy bankrollers for the tripe too.

And we're STILL supposed to believe they're oppressed?

5. The 375 seems to come because some translation of Revelations
uses the word 'furlong', and stipulates that "New Jerusalem" (rather a different critter, I think, from the present city) will be a square with a perimeter of a certain length. 4 x 375 mi, in furlongs. One of those curiously specious numbers that people pull from trying to interpret archaic systems of weights and measurements.

"In the air" ... ? Maybe he thought the Gk means "cube"? Dunno.

The precision of the number tweaked my curiosity, hadn't heard that one before. The rest I can't even begin to fathom.

6. According to Zechariah, and I'm loosely remembering this

7. they were saying the same thing 30 years ago
About the Soviet Union.

Then poof! The USSR was gone and they had to scramble to re-interpit prophecy.

8. The End is Near...
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 07:36 PM by WePurrsevere
Sadly there have been "christians" preaching that and finding "the signs" in eveything since shortly after Jesus died. Personally I tend to think that it's mostly a way of instilling fear into people in order to manipulate them into doing and acting a certain way. :(

The interesting thing that so many of these evangelists skip over is that Jesus himself supposedly told his disciples many times that some of them would be alive to see him return... even John, who wrote Revelations, believed the end times were near.

I just ran a quick Google and found one site with the verses I was thinking of... End Time verses Although I do not care for the tone of the previous website (I do not agree that the Bible itself is "evil" per se and certainly am not against true followers of what Jesus taught) it does have the verses I was remembering.
