A public service announcement: Tip #47 on quoting from the Bible

This check box, located just above the big Message field where you enter your posts, is your friend:

Check if you DO NOT wish to use emotion icons in your message

Please activate that check box so that chapter:verse notation doesn't turn into smiley faces. This way you get:

"Proverbs 29:7" instead of "Proverbs 22:7"
"Proverbs 22:9" instead of "Proverbs 22:9"

This doesn't apply just to Bible references, of course, but to a lot of stuff which can be misinterpreted as emoticons, most (but not all) of which starts with a colon (:).

Alternately, you can allow emoticons but use mark-up to break up sequences of characters that would otherwise turn into emoticons, such as entering "Proverbs 29:{b}{/b}7", except replacing the curly braces with square brackets.

If you take the time to preview before you post, you'll see any unintended emoticons and can fix them before posting.
