1. LOL
The baptist church next door to me has an electronic set. Not quite as pretty as hand-rung bells, but they do play a little song. They only ring at noon however. Plus, we're separated by about a 1/4 mile and some woods.

I think would get annoyed at ringing all day on the hour.

I happen to enjoy the sound of church bells.

It's not like it is all day long even - the story says it is at the top of the hour from 8:00 - 8:00.
That's thirteen times. Or, 86 total strikes if you want to be specific. If you want to assume that it plays Westminster Chimes or something, fine. That, along with striking the hour, wouldn't last more than a minute even at noon.

If it played the Chimes in quarters, like some clocks do, fine - maybe you'd have an argument there.

Otherwise, people just need to get a life.

4. It may also have to do with the level. Many places have noise
ordinances, including where I live. Requiring it to be under 60dB in a residential area seems to be the norm:

5. I'm all for church bells provided that
1. they are real bells - no electronics

2. someone is physically ringing them - no automatic clappers.
