Need some help re: Jesus being told he was going to die
Nothing profound here, but my memory retrieval system is failing me. Wasn't there someone that told Jesus he would have to die? I seem to have a pretty clear recollection of that, but can't put a finger on it. Nothing pops up with a few google searches. Maybe I'm creating something in my head that is inaccurate. Anybody help a brother out? Again, nothing profound; actually relates to the episode of LOST last night.

5. That's what I was thinking too

Did that happen, cause it didn't pop up in a google search. Maybe I didn't use the right terms.

Fits with my LOST theory a bit, too.

11. It's funny that the scene from the musical is the clearest image...
...of the garden of Gethsemane that comes to mind for me.

By the way... the London cast recording is the only TRUE version! ;)

7. But isn't there a moment where it is made explicit?
Or is it just a fulfilling of the old testament?

3. Jesus predicted his own death - after all, *HE'S* the omniscient deity in the story.

4. No, there's no official
Geez, Son, you keep talking like that and you're gonna get killed."

I think it's more of a gradual, general awareness that what he's doing only has one conclusion, as many peace activists along the eons have discovered. We almost always kill the messenger.

6. The incongruity of Jesus' death-life ...
IF Jesus emerged from death as a glorious being: Did he 'die' for any one's sins ?

When you 'die' for something, don't you actually STAY dead ?

IF Jesus is God, and God knows everything, then Jesus knew he would be resurrected soon thereafter, and take his place in Heaven next to God the father ...

If Jesus knew he was going to be in heaven soon, then how is his earthly death a 'sacrifice' ?

What did he give up ? ..... a hard life for perfect ecstasy ?

8. "Destroy this temple . . ."
Edited on Thu May-07-09 09:09 AM by John1956PA
From John Chapter 2, Verse 19:

Jesus answered them, "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will rebuild it."

International Standard Version (©2008)

Christian theology teaches that Jesus was speaking about himself (or his body) when he referred to "this sanctuary." Christians say that Jesus was predicting his death and his subsequent resurrection on the third day thereafter.

10. Jesus predicts his death:
John 12:27-36 on Palm Sunday:

27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify Your name.”
Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”
30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” 33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.
34 The people answered Him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
