Did Rush Limbaugh break the FIRST commandment?
FIRST commandment: "Do not have any other gods before me."

In his speech before his fellow travelers the other day, Limbaugh made a joke about the accusation that he's pompous. The joke ends with the punchline that God named his throne after Rush Limbaugh because even God admires Limbaugh. The "humor" is that Limbaugh, who is, wink, wink, not pompous, told a joke in which he puts himself above God.

I'm not suggesting that we burn Limbaugh at the stake or have riots in Danish cities. But I do believe he needs to be publically corrected for his a joke in which this god, puts himself above Thee God.

Limbaugh's actions should remind people of "the shining one," also known as Satan. Part of the theme of the Bible is that people think they are above God or they can become as great as God. Following the second commandment, we have the quote, "I the Lord your God am a jealous God." It should be quite clear that Limbaugh is not on the right path. The hypocrisy of "christians" following the new shiningg one (lucifer means shining one) is astonishing. If "christians" don't defend God, are they secular humorists?

We've heard conservatives debate gay issues with the phrase, "Where do we draw the line?" Guess what? THIS is where the line should be drawn. How can "christians" stand by and tolerate this in silence? But that is apparently what they are going to do. The Pope and Denver's Archbishop Chaput were quick to condemn Obama last month yet they won't defend GOD??? Where is their devotion to God?

I was once told that you can not become a member in some "christian" churchs and be gay. Well, can you be a listener or supporter of the new shining one, Rush Limbaugh, and truly follow GOD? But many religious groups pay to have Sunday broadcasts of their sermons on the very radio stations that broadcast Limbaugh. With today's economy, these radio stations need that "christian" money more than ever. Thus "christians" are enabeling the new shining one, Limbaugh.

Limbaugh must be corrected. We've seen that his racism, his drug use, his encouraging his maid to break the law and help him with his drug dealing, means that he is clearly on the wrong path. If you listen to Limbaugh you can not be a follower of Christianity.

2. Heh, remember what happened to Lennon when he said
the Beatles were bigger than God? (And he meant it sardonically, but of course, that wasn't enough).

3. This comparison is exactly right.
It does demonstrate the fact that "christians" are selective in who they will criticize rather than in What they criticize. In other words, they put the party ahead of God.

4. Hate to disagree after you've agreed
But please don't lump all Christians together like that. Plenty of Christians in the Democratic party, and in fact, right here at DU.

5. It was a comment about trusting statistics -
By taking two polls, first about number of Beatles fans and second about number of regular church goers, he concluded that the "Beatles are bigger than Jesus".

Whereupon he discovered that religionists have no sense of humor.

religionist is a person who believes in religion - not necessarily the same as believing in God. They are the rigid, authoritarian "my religion, right or wrong" types who generally know little about spirituality and the tenets of their religion, only about structure and the fact that the other guy is the 'other'.

That's why I said 'religionist' rather than 'theist'. I would think the vast majority of DU believers would be theists rather than religionists.

Of course, you had no way of knowing that from my post.

Edit: to clarify, liberal christians would be theists, while hateful fundies are generally religionists.

8. Ok then.
By that defnition, we're in complete agreement! I don't do well with an authoritarian take on religion, myself.
