Billy Graham grandson considering new role

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A high-profile South Florida megachurch known for fire-and-brimstone preaching wants a grandson of Billy Graham as its new pastor.

If Tullian Tchividjian (TUH'lee-uhn chuh-VI-dee-uhn) accepts, he'd assume the seat at Fort Lauderdale's Coral Ridge Presbyterian left vacant by the death of longtime pastor D. James Kennedy.

Kennedy died in September 2007. He was well-known as an architect of the religious right whose image on Christian broadcasting was beamed around the globe.

Being discussed is a merger of Tchividjian's small church with the larger Coral Ridge congregation. Tchividjian put out a statement Monday saying only if agreeable terms can be reached will the churches merge and he assume the role of pastor.

4. Coral Ridge w/Kennedy still runs on TV soliciting money as if he is still alive

I noticed Kennedy preaching this week and money being solicited on the screen during the broadcast. Guess they don't want contributors to know he died over a year ago. This fundie branch of Presbyterians will indeed be thrilled to have grandson of Graham leading their primary church and raking in more dough. He must be a strong right wing fundie to be deemed acceptable for this church as they are patriarchal, anti-evolution, anti-birth control and very pro-Republican.

His current church is conservative but part of a slightly more open minded branch than Kennedy's Coral Ridge in that his current branch believes in allowing their churches to decide individually about having women in high positions of authority and allowing a bit more independent thought on some issues.
