Woman Chased Out Of Church Due To Politics
Woman Chased Out Of Church Due To Politics

CBS13
Nov 13, 2008 5:19 pm US/Pacific
Reporting - Koula Gianulias

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) A Fairfield woman says her priest chased her out of Sunday services because of her political beliefs. The woman says she was singled out for supporting Barack Obama. That's because her priest was for John McCain and retaliated with humiliation and the threat of a tow truck. "I've been going to that church for six good years. Every Sunday," says Elizabeth. Elizabeth Caster and her little boy were in the front pew Sunday, when she says the priest got on the microphone demanding the driver of the SUV to move it.

"If you don't move your car in ten minutes I will tow it away. It was so embarrassing. There were 500 people inside the church," explains Elizabeth. Elizabeth had parked in a loading zone along with some other cars. So, she thought she had parked her vehicle in the lot, but quickly realized that is not what the priest was asking her to do. "He said you cannot park any place here, you have to go. He said you have to go and he said you cannot have a car with an Obama sign parked in there," Elizabeth told CBS13.

"I waited to confront the priest," says Elizabeth's husband, Joe. Her husband never caught up with Father Sebastian to ask why, but he's convinced he already knows the answer. "It's a combination of race and politics," Joe says. CBS13 could not find Father Sebastian today to get his side of the story, but a newspaper tried yesterday, and claims the priest physically and verbally attacked the reporter. They told CBS13 that the Father even clawed at his arm to get his notepad. The reporter has since filed a police report and the story ended up on the front page of his newspaper.

The news spread quickly through the congregation, where churchgoers are extremely passionate about the issue. "Any good Catholic vote for life, and Obama is against life," says one congregation member. "I just feel the church must change or its gonna die. We cannot continue to support this mindset that was reflected in the election," another church member told CBS13.

Police investigated this as a misdemeanor assault, and its now in the hands of the D.A. to determine if there will be any charges.

- Hmmmm... so whatever happened to: "Do unto to others as you would have others to do unto you?" or the one about "Love your enemies and bless those who curse you and despitefully use you?" Not to mention the one that says: "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's?"

Given the circumstances, I think its about time to remove the tax-exempted status from this one. That way they can politic at this "political rally hall" all they want....

10. The quote:
"Any good Catholic vote for life, and Obama is against life," says one congregation member.

A position for which I can find no support anywhere in the bible. However I did find this:

Happy are those who seize your infants and dash them against the rocks (Psalms 137-9)

- Maybe she should spend more time in bible study....

3. These people are insane. So, John "100 Years of War/Bomb Iran" is *for* life in their world?
Talk about sheep. Talk about "too stupid to vote." These people are a disgrace.

11. Tunnel vision.
Death all around them. War. Starvation. Disease. Poverty.

But all they can see is what's going on in another's bedroom.

- They're disgusting....

5. I feel sorry for believers, especially Catholics
Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 12:29 PM by Warpy
who have had it dinned into their heads since childhood that leaving Mother Rome will result their being cast into a lake of boiling lava for eternity. If there is no other Catholic church in town, they're stuck. It takes a great deal of courage to go even to the Church of England, the same thing minus the Pope.

Still, they really need to vote with at least their wallets if they find themselves confronted with a priest as bad as this one. A hefty hit to the collection plate will start to get through to him. A visit from the IRS will continue the process.

Any church that feels compelled to force its dogma on the entire population through civil law needs to be taxed.

9. At minimum....
...I think that tax-exempted status "should have to be earned" every tax year. This way anyone who can show (such as in this example) that a church has failed to maintain the separation of the wall between church and state, would not be allowed to have the status for the previous tax year. Thus making them responsible for ALL TAXES. Property, sales and income.

- And they should remain in such a tax status until they can prove otherwise. I think its the only fair way....

6. Number of Americans that say they belong to a church: Over 200 million
Number of Americans who have been thrown out of a church for their political beliefs: Comparatively Negligible

Find me any organized group of people and you will find some intolerance. Including Democrats, Liberals, and Atheists.

But don't let me stop your cherry-picking.

- But don't let me stop you from seeing the TRUTH. Your blinders seem to be working just fine.....

19. OK then....
So we can just blatantly ignore when stuff like this happens, because 200 million Americans belong to a church of some sort. Good plan!

Last time I checked, the main wave of intolerance in this world comes from organized religion. That may be due to the fact that a majority of people belong to a church, no?

20. I want to reply to you post with a post better than this one.
But I would need to make a guess at your overall point. If my guess is wrong, then my argument would be a straw man.

Possible overall points or straw men:

You believe that this situation should be ignored.

You believe that people should never organize into groups.

You believe that if cherries are over picked, then the local wildlife would suffer.

He'll probably be reassigned to a "happy farm" for a short period then sent to another parish unless he retires.

25. Fairfield Priest Apologizes For Obama Comments
Priest is accused of singling out a parishioner for Obama support
Updated 2:09 PM PST, Sun, Nov 16, 2008

Reverend Sebastian Meyer of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church read a statement at Mass this weekend to his church apologizing for his comments about President-Elect Obama at last Sunday's mass.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento is investigating allegations that Rev. Meyer forced a woman to leave church grounds because she put signs supporting Barack Obama on her car ...

Caster says two other cars were parked in the same area but weren't singled out. She says the priest followed her to the parking lot and ordered her to leave ...

"I have sent a letter of apology to the owner of the car and I want to apologize to all of you, as well, for my outburst and for the poor judgment I showed in expressing myself. I never meant to be disrespectful of anyone. I hope you can forgive me and for any offence I may have caused."

28. That used to happen to my mom a lot.
People just frown at me. God hardly ever tells me to piss people off so much they chase me out of church.

But it could happen...

Is it okay to declare war against the Knights of Columbus? To me it looks like they could use the exercise.
