RIP George Carlin
My favorite comedian by far. :-(

Here goes a R/T tribute, probably posted here 1000 times, but here it goes again (I wanted to post the bit about parents in heaven from his last HBO special but could not find it):

2. Another catholic school boy
is gone.
He will be remembered as one of the classics of this era. I'm glad we had him while we did.

3. I could never understand how people could be so sad over the death of celebrities..
Until today.

Carlin was hands down my favourite comedian.

4. First video if you search his name on YouTube

I am so fucking sad. I wrote to him for a "living author" project in high school, and he sent me a letter and an autographed copy of When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?.

Carlin had a trenchant understanding of how the control structure in America works and how euphemism and equivocation are used to stifle thought. He was a vulgar, hilarious George Orwell.

6. Do you still have that letter, or do you remember what he wrote to you?
Edited on Tue Jun-24-08 10:56 AM by Evoman
I think it would be interesting to know.

I am really impressed that he took the time to write back. The man was an artist...and one of VERY FEW people I feel kinship to. He was flesh in a plastic world.

7. It's in my parents' house somewhere

We're redoing the place right now, so most of my stuff is in boxes. I dunno where the letter is, but in the copy of his book he just wrote "Read this and do a book report. Stay cool -- George Carlin."

He didn't get my letter from his publisher until July, two months after I had had to finish the project. He mostly just apologized for that and offered to do anything he could to help. I had written something about how the education system is bullshit, and he wrote that he was more than willing to help an individual student, regardless of what he thought of the system.

If I recall correctly, there was only one other person in my class who received a reply from her author, and the two corresponded by e-mail for some time. I really should have written to Carlin again. I feel like I missed an opportunity there.

The last thing Carlin would want is all of us fellating his corpse, but I don't care. He was fucking great.

edit: punctuation Naziism

8. Awesome.

Yep, me neither. Only celebrity who deserves it, would be disgusted by it. Fuck you, George Carlin, I'll fellate whatever I please! Hehe.

5. My favorite theologian.
Sure, I like Dawkins, Dennet, and Myers. But just didn't have George's panache. You can't beat his treatise on angels: "What are you, fuckin' stupid?"

I guess he was of the opinion that you can't debate logically a position which was not logically arrived at. I'm all for reason and logic and evidence and science and all that, but at the end of they day I have to agree that these people are just stupid, and it can't be helped.
