"Isn't your mamma expecting you home?"
"Not yet."

I always bawl at the end of the original. It looks like I'm gonna Boehner all through this one.

1. This is our reaction around these parts...

3. And I just don't think the remake is going to stand up
What's next, a remake of The Quiet Man? Meh.

8. Some movies are meant to be left alone
Frankly, in the case of True Grit I'd rather just read Portis' novel so I've already requested it from my library. I really don't want to let Bridges into my head for this one.

6. Yes, I saw the trailer the other day
And I started watching Crazy Heart when it was on tv recently and couldn't make it through the whole thing.

9. I saw that a while back and also liked it
It's not that I don't ever like Bridges. I just don't see him in TG.

We're always a hard sell when it comes to icons in the movies and we're very tough on remakes. They rarely stand up, imo.

10. It's not really a remake.
It follows the book better. It is told by Mattie Ross in the first person. It doesn't have the sappy ending that the John Wayne one had. This story is all about Mattie. The woman in the bank with one arm tells the story of her teenage adventure. I hear that it is much better.

11. Like I said, some movies are iconic
Up thread I mentioned that I ordered the book from my library. At this point I want a date with Portis' story and will see what he really wanted to say with Bridges involved.

Take care.

12. The original is so so good. Not sure a remake will work or
maybe I'd be biased?

14. I think the little girl in the original is annoying.
The girl in the new one looks awesome. Much more dark and much less whiney.

Plus the Coen brothers are able to extract pure genius from Bridges.
