1. Key difference is that in America- due to media consolidation there are no awesome new songs
from emerging artists on the radio.

A guy like Beck -or even Nirvana has no chance for airtime in 21st Century American radio unless they have industry payola backing.

2. I'm not even sure I have a radio anymore.
I guess there must be one on my clock radio, but it's been set to the beep-beep thing for a decade.

My recollection of radio in 1990 is Menudo, Vanilla Ice, Marky Mark, `six songs by Nirvana, and 35 minutes of commercials every half hour.

I sure as hell wasn't going to hear Slayer, or Dag Nasty, or Kingface, or the Butthole Surfers, or the Reverend Horton Heat, or anything else that was popular with me in 1990.
