Napolean Dynamite.
To me this was the best movie of the year. Did anyone else see/ like it?

Here are some quotes from the movie:
"What're you gonna do today Napolean?"
"Whatever I want GOSH!" Napolean then proceeds to tie a string to an action figure and throw it out the bus window while still holding the string.

"Girls like guys with skills. Like, numchuck skills."

"Napolean, don't be jealous because I've been chatting with babes online all day."

"What are you drawing Napolean?"
"A liger. It's a cross between a lion and a tiger. It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's got magic AND skills."

"I see you're drinking 1%. Is that because you think you're fat? 'Cause you're not. You could drink whole if you wanted to."

"Do the chickens have sharp tallons?"
"What?"
"I said do the chickens have sharp tallons?"
"Boy, I don't understand a word you just said."

"If I run for school president, you could be my vice president or secretary or something."
"Could I be your bodyguard?"
"Sure."
"SWEET!"

7. One word of warning about who to watch it with
Don't watch it with half-wits! I had some relatives over, and they just about killed it for me. I don't think they got any of it. I watched it a second time with my eleven year old daughter, and she thought it was hilarious, so it was much more fun. (My eleven year old is a bit weak on academics, but exceptionally perceptive on movies).

8. I have a pretty warped and twisted sense of humor...
so "off beat" comedy definitely appeals to me.
From everything I've heard from those who liked it, (it seems to be one of those "you either love it or hate it" kind of movies) it is definitely a movie I'll rent.
Thanks.

4. Good, yes. Better than LOTR, yes. Best-- that word means something
different to me and you! :-)

I liked it. I liked it more the second time I watched it. But I have no desire for a third time. Not much there aside from MTV's usual deadpan style and few cute one-liners. MTV's deconstructionist style has become so cliche it needs to be deconstructed.

5. Ok maybe not the best...
but aren't "cute one liners" what makes comedy so hilarious? I mean I remembered so much of that movie's lines and what had happened in it sheerly because it was so funny. I don't think it was the best movie of the year (yes it was slow paced and I'm not sure I need to see it again) but I definitely think it was the best comedy.

6. What makes comedies great?
Wonderful question! One liners are key, no doubt. I also like a comedy whose humor develops from the plot and the characters, and ND did that, too. When Uncle Rico said "I could throw a football a quarter mile." "Really?" "I'm dead serious!" it was hilarious because of the character more than the line.

There's another scene where he's talking to someone and he crosses his arms, and without making a big deal about it, he looks down at both biceps to make sure they are posed right.

See, you're talking me into liking more than I thought I did!
