2. He wasn't murdered. The doctor negligently gave him an excessive amount of medication.
With an income like that, the customer is always right. Michael was not comfortable with the amount of medication. He likely had built up an immunity to the medication over time.

The doctor gave more sedatives. But no immunity to the perceivable effects of the medication is going to make the body capable of handling massive doses of powerful depressants.

Truly a tragedy. The man needed help. The "help" he had ended up killing him.

4. Just to clarify (I'm a nurse)
1) the MD was beyond negligent. Propofol/diprivan is never to be given outside of a medical-center setting, certainly not in a home setting. It is not a drug that one uses recreationally

2) there is not a tolerance to diprivan.

3) the amount the MD said he gave MJ was a complete fabrication. He said he gave 25mg of IV Diprivan to MJ. 25mg of Diprovan is nothing, and will not sedate to the level that MJ was sedated

4) it is not a "depressant". It is a hypnotic used in sedation during surgery and sedation when intubating a patient and for use while a patient is intubated

5) Not only did the MD give MJ Propofol in an uncontrolled setting (i.e. not in a hospital where resuscitation supplies are at hand should something go wrong), he also gave MJ Ativan, a benzodiazepine which potentiates the effect of Propofol. They both cause respiratory depression and giving one on top of the other causes severe respiratory depression. So much so that most people who get the combo of Propfol/Benzo's do have a mechanical airway in place because their breathing is so tenuous.

I've given Diprivan on more occasions than I can count. The MD said he gave 25mg and that's what did MJ in---that's laughable. 25mg of Diprivan has a half life of, like, 10 seconds. Basically the effect of the drug would be over by the time the drug was finished being injected.

The MD is lying, and went beyond professional negligence and I agree that he murdered MJ. I don't believe it was with malace or intent, but through sheer negligence and lack of professional standards.

6. You should look up the definition of murder.
A major prerequisite is malice.

This is likely negligent homicide. Which is something very different from murder.

8. you're right
I'm at work and was thinking that negligent homicide was like a lesser degree of murder. However, the death was definitely out of negligence...every.single.RN I work with knows that you don't give propofol in an uncontrolled situation like that, without a Code Cart nearby, intubation supplies, etc.

Also, the fact that the MD did such an admittedly piss-poor job of CPR...holy smokes. Doing CPR on a mattress? His reasoning was that the mattress was "firm"...sorry, not buying it. NO mattress is firm enough for adequate CPR.

He made mistakes that a new-grad RN wouldn't even make, and we've got a lot less training than MD's do when we come out of school.

15. Negligence may be the case, but was it with malace because
he got a better offer? This singer was touring and was going to spread the word that "they don't really care about us". A message the people of Katrina got loud and clear. Also there are other comments that family have made to suggest intent/malace.

5. The customer is always right?
So if you're rich enough, you can demand recreational drugs from your doc and it's not his fault for giving them to you?

That's not a doctor, that's a pusher.

7. I said it as a fact, not as moral justification.
If you have enough money, you can do or get whatever you want.

And yes, the doctor was much more like a drug pusher than an actual medical doctor. He is a disgrace to the profession.
