10. Saw them in '96
when they performed at Fiddlers Green in Denver. They joked about when all three of them had hair. They also performed "Puff" early on - they said they used to keep it for last but parents asked them to sing it earlier before the little ones fell asleep, that 'now' they sing it earlier so that the parents are still awake.

Everyone sang along with them, often with tears, often with smiles.

We were sitting at the top of the hill and there was a big group of kids behind us. They were pretty raucous and sometimes drowned out the main act. Turns out they were Israeli and Palestinian kids who were part of a peace-making effort and they adored Peter, Paul and Mary, hence the exuberance. Given the nature of their gathering they were given back-stage passes for after the show, and they shared those passes with us. That was a very sweet moment for a group of old ladies who, thirty years earlier, had performed many of the songs made famous by the trio.

11. I remember when the rightwing accused them of promoting pot smoking
in their song "Puff the Magic Dragon." Only a psychotic rightwinger would see and hear a drug message in a children's song. I loved "Puff!"

Puff the Magic Dragon, lived by the sea...
