Celeb Talk: How Over-Hyped Is Angelina Jolie?

Here's an item I came across, intended for media people:

Why does the public love Angelina Jolie? Well, that's the question Harper's Bazaar is trying to understand and they've enlisted feminist author Naomi Wolf to explain. According to Wolf, "women both identify with her and desire her," adding that it's "more than simply a physical response." Wolf says Jolie "brings together almost every aspect of female empowerment and liberation." She has even managed to change her image from someone whose behavior was deemed "eccentric" and "slightly icky" to a "new, and fairly radical, vision of single motherhood." In addition, she weathered the storm when she was accused of breaking up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Explains Wolf, "she managed the almost unheard-of task of turning the home-wrecker label into a wholesome, family-friendly triumph."

But did she really, turn the talk, or did she put on enough of a good show to keep mainstream media covering for her ass? I've never seen her as anything but a freak show.

She is a terrific actress. Her personal life has unfortunately overshadowed her ample acting abilities.

I think her fame is deserved; she chose her action roles, starting with Hackers, VERY wisely. It's when the PR machine tries to heap on the critical praise and the Great Humanitarian talk gets under way, my eyes get rolling.

6. Way over-hyped. I don't identify with her or desire her. I'm put off by her.

I think there are a number of beautiful and compelling women actors out there -- but she's not one of them.

And I don't buy her mother-of-the-whole-world image. From the incredibly dismissive way she's talked about her first biological child, it sounds like she's a classic narcissist.
