Richard Dreyfuss in talks to play Cheney in "W"
By Steven Zeitchik
Reuters

CANNES, France (Hollywood Reporter) - Josh Brolin has a vice president.

Richard Dreyfuss could soon make the trip to Oliver Stone's White House, entering final negotiations to play Vice President Dick Cheney in the provocateur director's upcoming political drama "W."

The role is the last major position in the Bush administration to be filled; the West Wing is already occupied by the likes of Brolin (President Bush) Thandie Newton (Condoleezza Rice) and Elizabeth Banks (Laura Bush).

It would not be the first political role for the 60-year-old Dreyfuss, who won the Oscar for playing a struggling off-Broadway actor in "The Goodbye Girl."

6. Died in the early 70s of heart failure
He was only in his 60s.

He'd be long dead by now if he were healthy anyways.

3. He already played him in the American President
If Bob Rumson wasn't Dick Cheney I don't know who he was supposed to be. In one scene he even did the evil crooked smile.

7. Exactly!
Honestly, I can't see anybody other than Dreyfuss playing Cheney.

4. Well, he's already played a variation of Karl Rove.
Dreyfuss was cast as political adviser Chuck Raven in John Sayles's 2004 Silver City. In the same film, you can behold Miguel Ferrer and Chris Cooper playing, respectively, G. Gordon Liddy and George W. Bush, or variants thereof.

5. This is excellent
I'd love to see that. Not as much as I'd love to see Cheney in Abu Ghraib, but still...

Oliver Stone, when asked about the content of the movie stated,"It's about how an alcoholic bum becomes the leader of the most powerful nation in the world". This should be good. I can't wait and it's just in time for the election.

11. Does he get to stand around outside of the federal reserve building in NYC after it was bombed?
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 09:52 PM by Kire
and does he get to watch them film Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson kill fictional bad guys? Maybe they said something to him about what it was like on Pulp Fiction, which they both had just recently wrapped.

that would be awesome!

PS, I secretly wonder if Cheney said "Yippee-ki-yay! MF'er!" after he shot his friend in the face. (Sorry, I had to go there).
