Dixie Chicks - Here's my song
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 09:37 PM by rhyden77
I know a lot of you hate the Dixie Chicks, but it's all about free speech. If you guys want to let the politicians divide this country, then keep drinking the Kool Aid. Here's my song and it speaks the TRUTH! I'm for one America.

Update :

Okay, okay, so a lot of you appear to love the Dixie Chicks, but I remember a time when a lot of the country was boycotting their music.

2. Just about everyone here loves the Chicks.
Even if we did not care for the music, we stand united with them for the horrible way they were treated. Personally, I love them, have all their CD's and saw them in concert a few years ago. Welcome to DU!!

positive.

Well, except for music purists that took issue with the composition of the melody, but they were critiquing the style, never the Chicks. MKJ

7. The Dixie Chicks weren't boycotted - they were CENSORED
by the bigwigs who owned the country music stations.

Boycotting comes from the grassroots up - this censorship of the DC's was imposed from the top down.
Big difference.

8. I'm not sure why you'd say you know a lot of us hateThe Dixie Chicks...
most of us have a tremendous amount of respect for them. After everything happened, I bought their CD as a show of support and ended up loving the music. They are so incredibly talented. We've also had several discussions about the wonderful documentary "Shut up and Sing." I realize you've only posted 33 times so maybe you're really new here and for some reason assume DU'ers hate the Dixie Chicks.

9. I'm so confused. You "remember a time when a lot of the country was
boycotting their music." No offense but, huh????? Why would DU'ers EVER, EVER, EVER, be in the "a lot of the country" arena? And, dontcha kinda remember WHY people were burning their records...Maybe I'm on too much pain medication (Fibromyalga) but I feel like I entered an altenative universe thread...I think it's time for bed.....

11. Vocalist = Sam Roberts
I think the vocalist for the song is Sam Roberts. The link does not seem to go to a Dixie Chicks song. Maybe the op either linked to the wrong thing or just thinks the song gives support to the ideas of the Dixie Chicks.

13. Also baffled as to the assertion that a lot of "us' hate the Chicks
Welcome to DU ; you'll find almost universal admiration for them here, whether or not we're a fan of their music ( I like em, personally )... corporate country radio blacklisted them albeit, I suspect, with a lot of support from their listeners... The Chicks have moved on, and have willingly blown off their former fans who turned on them for daring to criticize fearless leader. On a personal note, I did a show with them at the 1992 New Mexico State Fair; not even as an opening act--we were just alternating sets... They (and we) were so unknown, that we weren't even on the main stage--probably not more than 100-150 people in the audience. It was before Natalie Maines was in the group, but the sisters, Martie and Emily, were, and we got to hang out together during the down times that day, and they were the nicest people you'd ever want to meet.
