Hot Tuna appreciation thread
OK, I'll start-

"Keep Your Lamplights Trimmed and Burning"

A gritty, rockous, bluesy electric rock tune......and I kinda liked old Papa John playing that soaring electric fiddle.....

6. I heard the tune of the Bangledesh album ..................
Ended up buying the album just t get that tune.

Of course, accoustic Tuna is mighty fine, too. "Down and Out" is a pretty damn good tune for these times....

5. I was always partial to the Hot Tuna side of the Airplane......
The Starship thing kinda sucked.

:-)

Saw Jorma and Jack at a brewary/bar in Bethel, Maine a few years back....outdoors....excellent....

7. early starship
Early starship was good. I saw a terrific show at Saratoga in 1975. However nothing like the Airplane. I saw them at an outside show at Stonybrook 6 days after Kent State.

10. Not just you, music was revolutionary and inspired in the 70's
The Airplane was my band.

Volunteers for America.

We Can Be Together.

Wooden Ships. That was some powerful shit.

Jorma and Jack are still awesome. But, man, I miss the days when music actually changed your life.

Listening to The other side of this life on vinyl. Wooden ships was just great. If you can get a copy of woodstock 2 there are 3 great airplane songs on it.

19. Yes, it was exciting times for music.
Airplane put tension in their music and their message....remember 30 Seconds Over Winterland/"Have You Seen the Saucers"?

I saw more than that with a dose of windowpane charging through through the nueral networks.......

11. agree
It's not you, music ws truly inspirational. They were teaching a course at Univ of Rochester that covered rock from 64-71. It was the only time that the artists and not the producers had control of the music. Also that rock came out of folk and folk was an intellectual movement. The were the times of the great social movements. The musician were actually smart. Compare them to Motley crue(Dumb)

14. Seems the scene started to change in the mid-70s......
I loved the whole electric R&R/R&B sound, but the music began to change in the mid-late 70s. I had friends that were into Stix, Foreigner, Kansas stuff.....I couldn't go there.

16. producers
producers and top 40 hits took over. The rock of the late 60's and early 70's just can't be touched.

Hot Tuna & Ellen Mcillwaine in the same thread??? There is a God.
I thought everyone had forgotten her. She's amazing.
Back to the Tuna question, Jorma is a genius. From the beauty of Embryonic Journey to Blue Country Heart, he puts his soul out for all to see. I've seen them in tiny bars to major revues, never been disappointed.

24. The Commander!
I was stumbling around Boston (somewhere close to Kenmore Square) with some friends in the early 70's....heard this outrageous music and boogy-woogy piano spilling out on the street. Had to check it out. There were maybe 100 people in the club.....whatta night....

22. Hot Tuna?!
Wow haven't heard about those guys in a long time. Two faves of mine are "Day to Day out the Window Blues" from the "The Phosphorescent Rat" lp and "Hot Jellyroll Blues" from "Yellow Fever". What is Jorma Kaukonen doing these days anyway?

23. He's still playing
and running something called "Fur Peace Ranch" a guitar camp in Ohio.
Still playin' with Jack. Check out "Blue Country Heart". Possibly the best work of his career.
