My Conversion to Audiobooks
Well, not a full conversion. I still like to read paperbacks and hardbacks, because I love the feel of the pages and the smell of books. And I will probably never get an e-reader.

I always liked taking the bus when I lived in town, because I could sit there, listen to my iPod and read a book. Driving back and forth to work, you can't really read and drive at the same time (I've tried it; hasn't been productive because you can't focus on the book).

I never really thought I would enjoy audiobooks simply because you can't thumb through the pages, highlight or make notes, but it's better than listening to most of the drivel that comes out of the radio, whether it's music or talk. It has certainly made my drives home in traffic much more relaxing and enjoyable (much less road rage).

First one was Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria. To be followed by Aristotle and the Aardvark Go To Washington, The Return of History and the End of Dreams, The Forgotten Man, and now The Gamble by Thomas Ricks.

1. I only use them for long car trips and they are fantastic for that purpose. If
you like political thrillers I can't recommend "The Ghost" highly enough. I can never remember author's names but I think it was Harris.
Its the book the wonderful, brilliant movie was based on - "The Ghostwriter." You run through the discs and you have arrived at your destination!

2. I love audio books and listen every night in the car while I am working.
I also enjoy them when out taking a walk. In fact if I am listening to a book while walking I will only listen to it while walking so if the book is very good it encourages me to walk more.

Listening to a good book being read takes me back to those special times during grade school when we would put our heads on our desks and listen to the teacher read. Also being read to at bedtime. It is special and a good reader can really make the book come alive.

3. I'm Not Fully Converted, Either
I always have a book on in the car, but now, when I'm busy with housework, cooking, etc, I also have one going. It sure makes cleaning easier. lol It is especially enjoyable when the author does the reading.
