Book Recommendation: Under a Flaming Sky
The Great Hinckley Firestorm of 1894 by Daniel James Brown

This is a great read, the author is very detailed in describing the attitudes of the day. He is also descriptive of the individuals who lived before, during and after the fire. He also explains fire science, the types of fires and what fires do when certain conditions exist.

Eye Opener: Even though the US manages forests and clear cutting better than we have in the past, many places in the US are still vulnerable to massive wild fires.

1. Maddie - if you like these kinds of reads I highly reccomend...
"The Children's Blizzard" by David Laskin

"In three minutes the front subtracted eighteen degrees from the air's temperature.
Then evening gathered in, and temperatures kept dropping in the northeast gale.
By morning on Friday, January 13, 1888, more than a hundred children lay dead on the Dakota-Nebraska prairie".

It is an amazing read, and one that is best done with a roaring fire, a couple of blankets, and a box of tissues at hand.

You'll never look at cold weather the same way again.

I loved this book simply for the fastidious research of the author, and the breath taking story-telling.

2. Thanks for the recommendation I will check the library and put
it on hold.

Same type of detail in the book I recommended...all I am saying is if I see a fire over the horizen I am packing my crap, my dogs and my spouse and getting the heck out of dodge.
