Last Time to See by Douglas Adams
He traveled the world looking for endangered animals, and put his unique spin on the experience.

Douglas Adams died way to soon!

1. He was a great guy
I had the good fortune to meet him many years ago--he did a reading and book (and towel) signing at a local university. I'll never forget him giggling as he read his own stuff!

I enjoyed Last Chance to See--wasn't there also a TV show or something?

4. I still treasure my signed towel
And it's been more than...oh gods...25 years since he signed it? YIKES! Time flies. But yes, he was a big ole puppy--very much so--very enthusiastic and grateful to the folks who came out to see him (big blizzard that night). Hee--I remember during the Q&A part of the night he asked someone in the audience where they were from, and when they said "We came all the way from Rome to see you" he nearly fell over. They had to explain that Rome, NY, was a couple of hours' drive up the Thruway.

I read Michael Palin's Diaries a couple of months ago--he talked about DA a lot, as DA was writing with Graham Chapman in the mid-'70s. IIRC, DA contributed some ideas or some script revisions (with GC) to Life of Brian. Interesting stuff.

5. I still remember his description of New Zealand:
If you took the whole of Norway, scrunched it up a bit, shook out all the moose and reindeer, hurled it ten thousand miles around the world and filled it with birds then you'd be wasting your time, because it looks very much as if someone has already done it. Welcome to New Zealand.

That made me laugh out loud.
