What is considered to be "The" definitive biography on TJ?

1. American Sphinx by Joseph J Ellis was good also

the John Adams biography by David McCullough had quite a lot of stuff about Jefferson in it.

2. Dumas Malone divides a six volume series by focus - scholar, architect, etc.

So, you can read about what you want to focus on.

3. "Sworn Upon the Altar of God"....

has some interesting insight on TJ's understanding of religious liberty.

"The Magnificent Catastrophe" is an excellent account of the election of 1800, between John Adams and TJ.
