A short, breezy, fun and compassionate novel about a teen growing up in Chicagoland. Weird and well-written. I read that last year and highly recommend it!
I googled the author the other day and saw that "The Boy Detective Fails" was also presented as a play in Chicago. He certainly has an unusual take on things but I did enjoy the book immensely.
There's a decoder ring in the back and some small coded words I guess on the bottom of some pages but I can't figure out how to use the ring since it consists of one ring of letters and one of numbers. Most of the time both rings are letters and you simply substitute one letter for another.
I must confess to looking at it several times with the clues and trying to figure it out, but I did not spend a lot of time on it. I thought that was very clever to have included that in the book.
