one book, one chicago
anyone out there participated in this or similar programs? the current book is "pride and prejudice". i think this is the "heaviest" so far. i am trying to get a group going with other parents at my kids school. i passed out 6 copies at a parent teacher potluck tonight. a dozen people would be an ok start, since we are a little late in the process this time. the next book is announced in march.
i was looking for a movie version that was do-able on a week night. obviously the mini series versions are out. the old olivier/greer garson doesn't seem to be too available. but i was told that there is a bollywood version. i think this would be a hoot. we have an extremely diverse population, and an event that would appeal to the large indo-asian community is a big plus.
so, any advise on book clubs in general, or...?

1. "Bride and Prejudice" is the Bollywood version
it was directed by the British (woo-hoo!) filmmaker Gurinder Chadha (Bend it like Beckham). I just looked & it's out on region 1 DVD.

I think it was a joint British-Indian project (it's certainly in English). I haven't seen it, but it got good reviews - especially considering we're only just getting into Bollywood stuff.

2. oh, ok, now i get it.
that was suggested to me by the library as a modern remake that we might show, i did not put 2 + 2 together. thanks.
personally, i would like to dig up the old olivier, greer garson version, but i suspect this one is closer to the book than they bothered with in the old days in hollywood.
