"Going Wrong" by Ruth Rendell. If you've read it, or seen the TV movie of it,

please weigh in here.

Guy unquestionably had mental issues, and a drinking problem. But I think Leonora had some mental issues too.

Your thoughts?

she's actually pretty opaque to me, i can understand him better than her, yeah, there's something wrong with her, what's with the lunches, why doesn't she make it a clean break? there's a certain amount of passive-aggressive torturing of guy if you ask me -- she sees him just enough to keep the wound fresh for him

will have to look at that one again (the book, i haven't seen the tv movie but i'll watch for this also)

3. thank you raccoon
i have not had a chance to locate the DVD, however, i re-read the book and, holy spandex, batman, i'll say she had some mental issues

the lady was a freakin' sadist

and her wonderful family full of classist and racist reverse snobs aren't any prize either

god help us, she's just an awful human being

sure, he's awful too but i actually feel kind of sorry for the dude, he's drowning, and she pulls him out just enough to throw him back in again, kind of like those catch and fish release you see that have multiple hook marks in their mouth, ouch

toward the end of the book, celeste pretty much says the same thing

it's an interesting exercise to re-read the book with leonora as villain not victim
