About the new Harry Potter book, and possible spoilers.
A few people have asked about our policy on Harry Potter spoilers. Here it is:

Do not post spoilers in thread titles. If you put a spoiler in a thread title, the moderators are going to delete your entire thread. If you do it on purpose, you're an anti-social jerk and we might even ban you.

Other than that, here is what you need to know:

1. It is considered common courtesy to put something like "(Spoiler Warning)" or "(No spoilers)" in the thread title when posting about books or movies, so people will know if it is safe to read a particular thread. But the moderators are not going to enforce this. If there is no spoiler warning on a thread, CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK.

2. If you do not want to know what happens in the Harry Potter book, YOU SHOULD NOT BE SPENDING TIME ON A PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD. You probably also should not be watching TV or reading the newspapers. Because somebody is going to screw up and give away the ending.

3. Discussion of the Harry Potter book is not appropriate for General Discussion or Latest Breaking News or any other forum about politics, news, or current events. Discussion of the Harry Potter book belongs in the Lounge, The Books: Fiction forum, or the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=279">Fantasy Literature Group.

Thank you for your understanding.

3. I figure I will be glued to the book starting Saturday
No tv, no DU, no internet at all. Someone will spoil it.

And I'm not going to read the last chapter first.

Thanks, Skinner! Good reminders.

...and Hermione is really his sister.

I've got it on reserve from my library...#3 in the queue and they usually get a bunch of copies.
I get that auto-call, and I'm telling EVERYONE not to bug me unless it's a REAL emergency (e.g. if I don't show up, it means a funeral...and it ain't gonna be mine) cos I got a new book.
:yoiks:
Enough raving bibliophiles in my yard to respect that...in fact, they'll all probably be holed up with a copy themselves.

I got "The Halfblood Prince" from that load of books that dissapeared in England.

They wound up in Eastern Europe a week or so before the release date. :)

12. It's on order from my local independent bookstore
Midnight Saturday I get my copy. Sunday, the phone gets unplugged. I don't have a TV, but the radio and newspapers will be shelved. I'm off the Internet until the last page is read. I'm skipping church. I've had too many great films ruined for me by fat-heads who can't keep their bloomin' mouths shut. Nobody's going to do that to Harry.

Yes, I probably do need a life. :hi:

24. I am with ya
I can't wait, my mother and son are locking ourselves in the house this weekend. Should be great fun, we have sandwhiches, fruit and easy food to make sure no one has to stop reading to fix a meal. Gosh, I should probably get a life but hey a great series doesn't come along very often.

21. Nope. Harry wakes up next to Suzanne Pleshette
While Hagrid is parallel parking the car. Ron discovers that Hermione is actually a guy, and that Longbottom is really Kaesar Sosa.

Oh, and Snape shot JR.

20. Most likely the only way that JKR could insure that there will be no
knock-offs is to kill off Harry ... using the concept that the stain of Voldemort on Harry's soul would make it possible for continuous re-resurrections of Lord V. ...

Otherwise, some day it would be Volume 13, Harry
Potter and the Horrible Heroin Habit
, and,
eventually, Volume 69, Harry Potter and the
Insistent Incontinence
.

22. THANK YOU!
We are having a media blackout at our house this weekend so we can get through the book. Nothing would spoil it more than accidently coming across a thread about it revealing the ending.

I really appreciate this Skinner.

26. I'm not a fan of the books, but thanks Skinner.
I would think this wouldn't have to be posted. There is a great, huge eagerness for the fans of Harry Potter of this book. If I were a fan, I wouldn't want to see any spoilers around here.

Thank you for posting this.

28. I stayed off the internet completely beginning tuesday (NO SPOILERS)
volunteered at our local independent bookstore's harry potter release party, began reading the book at 2:15 saturday morning and finished it eight hours later at 10:15. it WASN'T spoiled for me! (the LAST two WERE spoiled for me) the BEST book of the series so far imo. a lot of suspense, more action than the last six books put together, and some very effective depictions of group behavior of people in a stressful situation.
