Why does it cost MONEY to recount votes-a right GUARANTEED by law?
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 11:34 AM by Kathy in Cambridge
The right to vote is guaranteed by the Constitution. If all the votes aren't counted, and there is a discrepancy regarding results, WHY does one party have to pay MONEY to recount when EVERYONE benefits from a fair election? :wtf:

There is plenty of money in the federal coffers that could be used to uphold this basic right under the Constitution.

1. I've asked the same question.
Especially given that you shouldn't have to pay anyone to do a recount as I'm sure there are plenty of bi-partisan volunteers out there eager to help.

The system is set up to reward wealth.

3. Recounts
I think it's because the system is set up to DISCOURAGE recounts. Don't want to have to do it unless they are FORCED TO. Most don't have enough money to pay for a recount, so this is the way to keep it from happening.

Kind of like the old 'literacy tests' they used to do before you could vote. A way to 'control' the process.

it costs money to do anything. Somebody has t pay. I wuld think that it to keep people from filing frivolous claims. "Put your money where your mouth is".

Hey, it cost money to travel, to go to court, to drive a car.
