Ohio Recount Must Start Now

WASHINGTON -- November 18 -- Attorneys for Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Michael Badnarik have sent letters to each Ohio county election director asking them to begin preparations immediately for the recount of the presidential vote. Although a demand for a recount is usually not made until after the vote has been certified, there are concerns that waiting that long would not allow enough time for the recount to be completed before the Ohio presidential electors meet on December 13 in Columbus.

5. Awesome
This is great! It's nice to see Cobb/Badnarik are getting an early start w/ the pressuring. They'll probably have to make lots of noise to get this off the ground even, let alone finished in time.

6. Just a stupid question
If a recount is started right away, of course the paper ballots can be recounted, but what about those Diebold machine totals. Will those votes be counted off of those very same machines as before, which would change nothing, or is there another way to count the machine votes. A stupid question, and perhaps I'm not making myself clear. Thanks

14. Not a stupid question at all .... but I believe paper ballots...
should be available for all precincts in Ohio. This is what I understood from Dennis Kucinich.

New Hampshire and Florida are different story.

16. Diebold
I am sure that I am nowhere near as up on all this info as others are, but I believe I read that the only Diebold machines in OH are the optical scan readers and Ohio doesn't use any (or very few) touch screen audit-less machines. So I assume they can manually recount these ballots without the machines (?) I don't even know what they do in a recount in Ohio, whether it's machine counted or manually counted. Hopefully they won't be using the machines!

9. hmm
i thought a recount automatically meant a hand recount, where possible? at least that's what happened in Florida in 2000, isn't it?

13. This seems like the only way. Can they get a judge involved?
Am I right in understanding that when OH rewrote their law after the 2000 fiasco, that the provision adding this waiting period was added? They already waited before beginning to count provisionals, and now an additional waiting period. It isn't right. Is there any sort of legal argument that would stand up, forcing them to begin now?

15. Ohio looks like a statewide hand recount.

NH on the other hand a whole 11 precincts. This should have been at least a county.
