This voter id thing would be funny if it wasn't true...
http://www.dmvflorida.org/drivers-license-identification.shtml is the list in Fl.

The wife and I just went down to renew our license, which we need to vote. I had a folder full of stuff. The clerk didn't accept my birth certificate (from a hospital over 50 years ago), so I handed over a passport. The passport has been renewed several times. That was accepted; and I couldn't help mentioning that I got the passport using the birth certificate that they just rejected?!?!

Then they wanted items that prove residency. I had just gone to a different window to get a new boat trailer tag. I simply told them an address that they typed in...computed a fee which I paid to get the trailer registration and tag. No proof of the validity of the address was provided. All I needed was the trailer manufacturers vin and a bill of sale. I took the tag bill to the ID window with the address I'd given them as one proof of residency???!!!?

This is obviously a cost and hassle to keep people from voting; but the funny part is that any idiot could get an ID anyway. Even my wife's "official state birth certificate" which she diligently wrote off and paid for would be simple to forge. No one had any way to check it from another state nor did anyone try.

I saw a clerk giving someone a hard time...and I think the real truth is that the staff is profiling applicants. If you look like a low-down-dirty-democratic-voting-minority-imigrant; you can expect the run around. If you look like a tea-party-gun-toting-conservative; you get a quick look and stamp of approval.

This is a perfect opportunity for one of the studies where you send in people with identical documents who look different. I don't have any doubt that in Florida the results would be interesting.

1. This is Homeland Security driven ....
... might have carry-over to voter ID, but the ease of ID for the 19 criminals of 9/11 started this goat rope.

2. Precisely
I went to renew my driver's license here in Missouri a few years back and was rejected as I had the photostat birth certificate given to my Mom when I was born 50+ years ago. In order to get my license I needed the certified copy from County Records. So dutifully I went there to get it and they required my Driver's License as Identification creating something of a circular logic in my mind. So after I got the new & improved birth certificate with virtually none of the information the photo stat had and paying my $15.00 to the County, I was able to renew my Driver's License.

The whole concept of Voter ID is not to provide "integrity" to the election process, it is to frustrate voters with more Government (brought to you by the less government folks) and thus restrict their voting.

3. The GOP is doing anything and everything to discourage voters
What does that say about their party beliefs if the only way they can win elections is by stopping people form voting?

It uses to be that you wanted more voters to better your chances of winning elections.

4. K&R for MoJo or Rolling Stone or Bradblog pulling the double O'Keefe.
Send in REAL people, and see what happens when NOBODY is being scammed.

Then we'll see what real bias looks like.

5. The GOP has institutionalized the mass challenge of minority voters.
Jim Crow Reloaded, it's that simple.
