Huber candidacy could force primary runoff with Pasch

A member of the Republican Party of Ozaukee County has surfaced as a possible Democratic candidate in the recall election that targets Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills).

Gladys Huber, listed on the Ozaukee GOP's website as a member at large - presumably of the county party's executive committee - has filed a registration form to run as a Democrat against Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay).

The candidacy is part of the state GOP strategy - described by Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) - to run "protest" candidates against Democrats challenging six Republican senators in recall campaigns.

According to a Government Accountability Board website, Huber served as the Republican member of the Canvass Board in Ozaukee County for the recent Supreme Court election recount.

Are candidates required to file nomination papers with at least 200 signatures of support? Or is that out the door with a special election?

I didn't find anything requiring a candidate must be belong to a specific party to run in that primary. There should be. Something along the order that there must be approval from the county chair for that political party when that candidate has a history of belonging to a different party. I don't believe Wisconsin has closed primaries as we do in Indiana. Here in Indiana a voter must declare which primary they will cast their ballots. Democratic or Republican. And there is a voting history that also shows which primary they voted.

We have an incident of a candidate running in the Democratic primary and winning a spot on the General Election ballot for an at-large seat. He didn't campaign and neither did the candidate that came in 4th. The candidate is a wacko and has some serious issues. Before the primary the candidate supposedly went up to Green Bay for vacation and while there he voted in a Wisconsin election in April. We are having difficulty removing him from the ballot.

It never should had gotten to this point. The 4th place candidate should had campaign. The local party should had made sure that everyone knew about this guy.

It would had helped if nomination papers require the candidate to gather maybe about 100 signatures to be placed on the ballot.

I saw this on Rachel; it sound incredibly stupid as if they're practically saying "Yes we're corrupt and we expect you to sit there and take it!"

Reverse psychology sounds dumb but the alternative is stupidity.

However at times in the past they may have been right but I don't think this is one of those times.

13. Apparently even the DNC doesn't mind this stuff.....

Here in Idaho during 2008 campaigns a known previously serving Republican, Walt Minnick, got on the Dem ticket, won the caucus/primary and was VERY strongly supported by the DNC. He won and proceeded to vote with Republicans something like 98% of the time, was the only Dem endorsed by TeaParty and as I said, DNC and other related Dem Parties threw $100 of thousands of dollars in his direction to get him elected.

I'm reasonably sure this isn't illegal, and I'm reasonably sure the DNC and DLC don't mind.
