Zogby post election BUSHIT survey
There were several questions I had a problem with....BUT this one really pissed me off
quote.......

Do you agree or disagree that laws prohibiting convicted felons and non-US citizens from voting s/b more vigorously enforced?
end quote..........

WTF? Felons are US citizens!
They had a bunch of questions on Vietnam that I would not answer. Did anyone else get this survey?

2. actually
San Francisco just passed a local ordinance allowing non-citizens to vote in certain local elections. But that's not the issue.

The question is NOT about letting non-citizens or felons vote... the question is about the ENFORCEMENT of the existing laws.

3. The Supreme Court just declined to hear a case
involving allowing felons to vote after they have completed their parole. I assume that is why the question was there.

As for the non-citizens - that sounds like a red hering in the question.

4. Yes, got it about a seek ago.
I think the problem you had with the "felons" question was the way it was phrased. Some states never let a convicted felon vote ever again, and some restore voting privileges once their time has been served.

I don't think felons who are in prison or on probation should have the right to vote. I consider that to be part of their punishment, but I do believe, once they are free again, the privilege should be automatically restored.

I don't know about the non-citizen thing. I only knew one guy who was in the US on a green card. He told me he had every privilege that I had EXCEPT he couldn't vote. I took that to mean that no non-citizen could vote either.

I'll have to check out the Zogby results on the whole survey. I'm surious to wee what they say the reasons people voted for who they did were, and if Zogby's results differ from what the media has ben saying.

8. disenfranchisement as punishment is bu**sh**!
loss of liberty, that's punishment.
not being able to see family and friends except for limited contact, that's punishment.
taking away my vote, that's not punishment, that's elected officials trying to tilt the playing field in their favor. they benefit far more than the felon is punished.

personally, i think voting should be viewed as a part of the felon's correction and rehabilitation. if he learns to be a good citizen, and learns that he's involved in his community, he just might become more law-abiding.

well, maybe not, i think we all vastly overestimate how much felons give a rat's patootie about the vote. but i think my attitude makes a hell of a lot more sense than the idea that taking away the vote is punishment, or in any way appropriate.

with the possible exception of felons convicted specifically for voting crimes.

5. It's a big conservative thing
The claim is that the Motor/Voter bill lead/leads to a lot of non-citizens being registered to vote. It's not a red herring; more of an unintended consequence of an otherwise good idea.

6. Yeah. What was the deal with all the Vietnam questions?
Something's up with us dealing with Vietnam isn't it? Somebody's trying to get a feel for something aren't they?

9. I think they were trying to see if the Dems pushing Kerry's service
record, and the SVFT had as much an impact as the media says it did. They also could be trying to see if the 'Nam issue is still as divisive as it was in the 70's. That question, I think, has already been answered!

11. I'm surprised they asked such a bad question. Combining two separate
issues (felons, non-US citizens) in one question is a researcher's no-no. Because you don't really know for sure which issue the respodent is answering to. Are you sure that was just one question?

13. two items in one question---asking felon and non-citizens!!
what the h.. is zogby doing. I took several researc classes in my days and one of the first things you learn is not to ask questions such as the one you posted---as the responder would say yes to one and no to the other or visa versa. Good grief!! send it back and tell them to find someone who knows how to construct a survey~~~~!!!!!!!

15. I sent an email to Marc at Zogby and told it was a Bushit question.
I think felons should be able to vote ( like they can in CO when they are on probation) BUT next we will allow every immigrant worker from Mexico voting privileges also.
BTW I refuse to answer the question also.
