Republicans say the opposition is exaggerating flaws in previous elections

Democrats are openly lining up Election Day teams of lawyers across the country to fight what they allege could be GOP efforts to suppress votes.

Republicans quietly say they have their own strategies for potential problems Nov. 7 but won’t give specifics. They say Democrats’ concerns are overblown.

"They’re going to have an awful lot of people standing around with nothing to do," said Bill Todd, a Republican lawyer in Columbus who expects to work for the state GOP on Election Day.

The parties’ efforts come after the 2000 recount in Florida and irregularities in Ohio’s elections two years ago.

Those problems included long lines, a shortage of voting machines and electronic machines that malfunctioned or miscounted votes.

1. We've heard that line before
They were supposed to have lawyers set to go after the 2004 theft, the only place the lawyers went was home to bed.

7. Us in Ohio saw it before as well. In Franklin Co 04 we saw a slew of
attorneys prior to the election. A lot of good it did.

3. Some places the only people standing around with nothing to do
were the voters waiting to vote because of the long lines and shortages of machines.
With hand marked paper ballots that problem does not exist.

4. Is there any way for the Dems to get verification of anyone who was
purged from the voting rolls, and the reason why...NOW...so we don't have a repeat of Fl & OH AGAIN????

I'm reading Palast's book right now, and one of the easiest ways for a Party to secure a win is to purge their voter lists of a certain group of people, falsely claiming they're felons, but the voter never knows until election day.

It seems to me, a lot of the concern about the evoting machines could be a way to draw our concentration away from the real hanky-panky until it's too late! We should be checking that, especially in States that are close and have Pub Sec's of State!!!!

5. BELIEVE ME!! IT DOES NO GOOD! If the Dems are lining up lawyers, its too
late in the game.

I live just outside of Cleveland Ohio and witnessed the lawyer dance after 2004.

Confusion reigned at the board of elections.

Press and TV and poll watchers and volunteers and lawyers milled all over the place.

We were rushed to the board of elections to "view the provisional ballot" count.

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

Lawyers flew in from Boston, and flew all over Ohio.

To no end.

The powers that be, have had 2 solid years to fix the problem and when the dust settled in 2004, there wasn't a lawyer to be found at the board of elections where lawyers should have been.

6. Some of these lawyers may be pretty smart, but...
...they all need a crash course in the problems with electronic voting to bring them up to speed.

I'm pretty surprised to hear certain election attorneys discussing electronic voting. Pretty simplistic.

The law hasn't caught up with the technology.
