Cuyahoga election manager quits

The ballot manager for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has resigned after being described by investigators as too inexperienced and not focused enough to handle the May primary.

Robert Baker, who was hired just two months before the flawed election, is the first high-level departure since release of a critical report by the Elections Review Panel in July.

The report blasted, among numerous foul-ups, the hand-counting of absentee ballots that delayed results for nearly a week.

“It was clear that at the time of the May 2 election, Baker was not prepared for the responsibilities of his position. .¤.¤. It is unclear whether Bob Baker has the interest and dedication to practical election management and the passionate concern for voting integrity that are essential prerequisites for the Ballot Department Manager position,” the report said...
