Legal Challenges to Election Conditions From Coast to Coast

The Contra Costa Times reported Tuesday that CA Secretary of State Bruce McPherson was named as a defendant in yet another lawsuit. The suit was filed by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the California Council of the Blind and the American Association of People with Disabilities. Also named as defendants are the counties of Alameda, San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma and Yolo. The case is based on the failures to comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

Also Tuesday, a Federal judge in Seattle ruled that voter registrations must not be contingent upon registration forms matching perfectly with DMV records. In an e-mail newsletter, CA State Senator and Secretary of State Candidate Debra Bowen explained the importance of this ruling and its relevance to California:

2. I like that, Sherman A1! We need voters with AN ATTITUDE! Enough is
enough!

My hope that is that voters will flood registrars' offices with MOUNTAINS and MOUNTAINS of Absentee Ballot votes and force them to deal with it. Panic 'em! Throw a great big monkey wrench into it! Clearly, we need to FORCE change. It's Montgomery bus boycott time, and Boston Tea Party time, but we can't boycott voting--that would be suicidal--and we can't actually dump these election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor'--they'd sick Fatherland Security on us. But we CAN boycott THE MACHINES. Most states have some form of AB voting. It's not a "safe" vote, but it's a PISSED OFF one! Imagine if the 65% to 70% of the people in this country who despise the Bush junta refuse to vote on these rigged machines! NON-COOPERATION. PASSIVE RESISTANCE. Won't the billions of dollars they have wasted on this crapass technology look foolish THEN--if nobody will vote on their gleaming new Bush flytraps?

Bumpersticker: Bust the Machines--Vote Absentee!

4. Well Said
I was talking to my State Legislator a few weeks back about our "new and improved" requirements to get a driver's license renewed and he brought up this insane voter I.D. thing in Missouri and he told me that his 95 year old Mother doesn't have a birth certificate to be able to get an I.D. therefore she will have to vote absentee. I think absentee voting is the way to go across the board, it's a great idea to muck up the system enough to get the point across that Diebold isn't acceptable.

7. Thanks bleever
I agree about OpEdNews. I only recently started submitted writing and they have used every piece I've given them. This one is currently among the top four stories on the home page, above the category headings.
