Polls on the move?
County has chance for new equipment
Jeff Horwitz, Staff Writer

If voters can't go to the polls, says county Registrar of Voters Kari Verjil, the polls should go to them.
To that end, the mobile-voting vehicle is part of an $8 million package of election equipment up for a vote by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors at today's meeting.

The board is expected to approve a Help America Vote Act funding agreement with the state, providing the county's Registrar of Voters with funds for upgraded elections equipment, increased voter education and the voting vehicle equipped with touch-screen voting machines.

The county has had plenty of time to think about how to spend the money: It made its request for state funding in 2002.

Verjil said that, assuming the board approves her request, the voting vehicle will likely be rolling through the county before the 2008 state primary.

"We are leaning toward something of a motor-home-type vehicle" similar to the ROVER vehicle that Riverside County operates, Verjil said. The portable-polling places would be dispatched to senior centers, civic events and remote areas of the county during the three weeks of early voting leading up to election day.

And if San Bernardino is struck by flood, fire or earthquake near the close of an election season, Verjil said, "we would be able to deploy the votemobile as an emergency voting place."

4. San Bernardino and Riverside are two of the most corrupt counties in
California on elections. They were part of the cabal of county election officials, led by L.A. County's Connie McCormack, who participated in the "swiftboating" of our good Secretary of State, Kevin Shelley, on entirely bogus corruption charges, after he had sued Diebold, and had decertified the worst of their election theft machines prior to the 2004 election.* This cabal sued Shelley for withholding federal funds for the purchase of Diebold's crapass, hackable voting machines--a suit they were forced to drop for lack of merit. McCormack said she wanted to drive a "bulldozer" into the Secretary of State's office to get that money. McCormack is best friends with--wines, dines and vacations with--Deborah Seiler, formerly Diebold's chief sales person in California, now an election official in San Joaquin County, hired by another Diebold shill. McCormack was also a featured speaker at a weeklong, lavish lobbying junket for election officials from around the country, at the Beverly Hilton in 2005, sponsored by Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia.

SB and Riverside counties had some of the highest discrepancies between the votes for Kerry and for Senator Boxer (Boxer ended up with a mysterious 10% edge over Kerry statewide, all of it from Republican-controlled counties--the suspicion being that they were shaving votes from Kerry and giving them to Bush). I would say there is little doubt that this vote-mobile will be driven to hotbeds of 'christian' rightwing fanaticism (for which SB is notorious), and other white, rural enclaves, and will most certainly not serve the large, poor Hispanic population, or anybody else likely to vote Democratic.

A nest of rightwing vipers running these and several other Calif counties. Badly needs to be cleaned out with lots of soap and water. (McCormack's not a rightwing extremist, as far as I know, except by remote control--helping fascists "win" elections. She's just corrupt--and one of these snobs of "professionalism" on electronic voting, with utter contempt for the voters.) (I guess that's fascist.) ('We the professionals, the experts, who understand electronic voting, and you the peon voters who are required to trust us...'--is her attitude.)

----------

*(Shelley was forced to resign, for lack of personal funds for legal defense. Tells you something about Shelley. He was completely innocent of all charges. But the vultures on the Bush-appointed fed election commission were circling, threatening to bankrupt him and destroy his life with a bogus investigation. Shelley was an elected Democrat, and an extremely conscientious and topnotch Secretary of State. The new state Dem Party legislative leaders failed to back him--some out of corruption in electronics in government, some out of fear. Basically, they hid under their desks while the Bush junta took him down. Then Schwarzenegger APPOINTED Diebold shill Bruce McPherson as Sec of State, who has now illegally re-certified Diebold touchscreens. We DO, however, have a fabulous candidate for Sec of State in the Dem primary this year, Debra Bowen, who got the endorsement of 80% of the Dem party delegates at the recent state convention. Her opponent, Deborah Ortiz is a Diebold/electronic voting advocate--one of the corrupt Dems. Bowen needs to beat Ortiz, to run against an even worse Dieboldian, Schwarzenegger tool McPherson, in the fall.)
