CA Dem registrants decline by 2% , Rep stay flat, decline to state
increases by 3%.

According to:
http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2005/December/11/local/stories/01local.htm
December 11, 2005
The Republican from Santa Cruz

"Having established himself as one of top GOP leaders in the state, McPherson believes voters are increasingly wary, even disgusted, with both of the major parties.

The number of voters registering as "Decline to State" represents about 18 percent of all voters, up from 15 percent in 2002. Meanwhile, registration of Democrats has dipped 2 percent during the same period and the number of registered Republican voters has stayed flat."

Let's hope that all "decline to state" registrants lean dem, that would mean a net gain of 1%.

However, considering the many grass roots liberal leaning movements, it is hard to believe that dem registrants declined and repubs stayed the same. What is happening here?
Hope the Greens gained some, even though I would have to check the SOS site to know....

1. this pretty much follows the national trend
basically, it's sexy to declare yourself "independent," so lots of people, especially college students, register (I) in droves, even though they might vote party line every time.

2. don't worry about it

The generic Democratic baseline in the state is 48%. The Republican one is 43%.

You do get dysfunctional one party state politics when the majority party is generically over 50% or the minority one always under 40%. A 48-43 split is about as good a situation as it gets.

3. Curious
What is the software they use to manage their registration? I'm expecting similar trends in other states if the cheaters have their way.

4. Progressives & Liberals are Getting Disgusted with Dems
Here is why I'm a Green party person:

1. Democratic candidates keep conceding elections that they have likely won if votes were counted accurately, and the Greens fight for voters' rights and fought to obtain the data from New Mexico that shows that absentee ballot votes were being padded by insiders and that electronic voting machines had incredibly high rates of undervotes in the presidential race.

2. Dems voted for the Iraq war for the most part when anyone who followed events knew that Bush et al were lying about WMD, and that invading Iraq would open a can of worms.

It would not surprise me at all to see Dems losing registration.

If only the Dems would fight for themselves, care about truth more than politeness, and see that votes are accurately counted to reflect the will of the voters, perhaps they'd be gaining share.
