My next project !
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 12:05 PM by garybeck
Election folks.

The Election Truth CD-ROM is doing great; I know there are thousands of copies out there, and more being burned every day.

For my next project, I am producing an Election Truth music CD. It starts with a contest and voting on the best songs that mention election fraud, and ends with a free CD that we can distribute and listen to, to help get the message out. It's going to work like this.

Phase 1: Nominations

I am collecting songs, written and recorded by singer-songwriters. Every song in the contest has to mention election fraud, stolen election, Diebold, or something that directly relates to the issue. The song doesn't have to be exclusively about election issues, but it has to be directly mentioned. Songs must be in mp3 format, and available for free download/listening on the internet. Composers must agree ahead of time, that if they win the contest they agree to allow their song to be distributed for free on the CD.

People can nominate their own songs, and songs can be nominated by third person. In the latter case, we must be able to contact the writer and get their permission.

Phase 2: Voting

Since we are advocates of fair elections, we will use a secure method of voting. It will be done online. I'm working on it.

A "ballot" will exist online where people can listen to all the nominated songs and vote on their favorite(s).

The ten songs that get the most votes will be put on the CD.

Phase 3: Distribution

We produce the CD and start burning copies, just like we have been doing with the CD-ROM. The CD will be a new way to get our message out. Make copies for all your friends, send them to the press, radio stations, etc. Because they are audio CDs, people can listen to them in their car, or on their home stereo. We'll also figure out a way to accompany the CD with some literature on the issues, so people can get involved if they wish (which is the ultimate motive of the whole project obviously).

Depending on how much momentum and attention the project gets, we may put together a free concert where the musicians perform their songs. If there is another election summit next summer, we could dovetail.

-------------

that's it in a nutshell. details are being ironed out now.

at this point, I'm looking for people to nominate a few songs so that when I launch the website for the project, there isn't an empty page of songs for people to listen to. SOOO if you know of any songs that mention the stolen election, please PM or email me. Please don't tell me about a song unless you have a link to it or have some contact information I can follow.

I know there are some bumper songs on the Brad Show that qualify but don't know who wrote the songs or where I can find them. I'll be talking to Brad about it... Also, there's a great song by Bright Eyes. But I know there are a lot more, so contact me with your nominations and we can get this thing going!

My tentative schedule is to split the amount of time we have between now and the 11/06 elections. The first half will be Phase 1 and 2, and the second half will be phase 3, leaving plenty of time for people to hear and share the music, and get involved.

1. Excellent!
I play music and have a studio - don't have any election related songs yet, but I'm going to work on one just for this!

Also, might I recommend getting the final disc on CD baby? They're a great organization that helps independent bands. The best part is they provide your music to all the digital distribution channels - iTunes, etc. My band Lazy Preacher has sold 20 or 30 songs to random people around the world this way.

3. Sounds great, garybeck! One question--
Was the part about secure online voting a joke?

Well, here's my joke: Maybe MoveOn would like to offer to let you use the on-line nomination and voting process they've set up for their 30-second ad contests.

Thanks for telling us about this! When the call for entries is ready, I can think of some places to send it.

5. good question.
actually, the line about secure online voting is not a joke. I think this is one of the most interesting aspects of the project, and I think it sheds light on our greater problem.

It is my belief that the real problem with Diebold, ESS, ... is that they have something to gain. Political influence, money, who knows what else.

In the case of a vote for who wins this contest, I don't think anyone has anything to gain. For example, if I (we) decide to use the voting system in Yahoo Groups, then the voting software would be written by Yahoo. Does anyone at Yahoo have anything to gain by altering the results? I say no. There is no motive, and therefore there a low likelihood that someone would go to the effort (and risk) of doing something like that. In fact people actually get paid to set up something that works.

In political elections it's a different story and there is all the world to gain. That's why you and I spend hours and hours trying to do something about it.

It's an interesting issue but I actually think online voting is usually trustworthy, when politics are taken out of the equation. Another thing to note, with some of them you can actually see the results instantly, and you will watch the total go up by one as you vote.

It's an open issue and I'm willling to hear people's input.

9. Bright Eyes
I plan on trying to get his song "When the President Talks To God" involved in this project but since he's signed on to a record label we might have problems.
