So....About Volunteering on that Daily news thread... Where are we?
I thought I'd do a status thread.. since it has been a while since we chatted on this subject. The way it stands right now. We have a coordinator job... Currently held by your truly, Melissa G ( also known as she who herds cats:))

We have a Monday-Thursday shift currently held by autoank...
Weekends have been rotating between MelissaB and Melissa G. We have lately been rescued by help from the Magnificent Wilms and support from the Great Foger Rox.

Many Thanks to Everyone who Regularly Keeps the Daily News Thread going!!! Many Thanks to Everyone who occasionally posts and makes it easier for the regulars while educating the masses.

THANK YOU FOR BEING THE MEDIA!!!

That said.. How is everyone doing???

IF you are a regular....Are you tired and burnt out?

If you are a new recruit or occasional poster... would you like to know how to get more involved?

Would you like to have my job and coordinate this puppy???

Should we change the way we run this and do it a whole different way?

Inquiring minds would like to know?????

I challenge anyone to claim otherwise. Did you see the ifilm of the cat herders? Stunning!
Now what do you need? I'll do what I can. Thanks for asking.

On edit> I'm very tired but not burnt out yet.

5. Some ideas
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 01:36 AM by autorank
1) I'd like Mon-Wed.

2) Having said that, this is a GREAT project and it's fun to do this. I've picked up a great deal of information and amusement.

3) It takes me about 1.5 hours a night to do this. It could take less if I searched a little better and read a lot less;).

4) You're not selecting a "coordinator", since there has really been none that I've known of since I started (actually, I thought it was Wlms then MelissaB so surprise). Another two (2) posters yes. That would be very helpful.

7. So it sounds like we need folks for Thursday Thru Sunday...
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 02:16 PM by Melissa G
That leaves some likely options...
One or two people taking Thursday and Friday or Sat and Sunday
or

if one person would take a week at a time for this shift..

Since Auto has been kind enough to be steady on his shift.
It just means coordinating these other days.

The coordinator job just means you are willing to stay in the rotation make sure everyone is covered and prompt folks when it is there weekend.
There are three or four of us who have been covering weekends.
The two Melissa's, wilms and Foger Rox as they have been able.

I'm thinking we reevaluate each time the mods change since that is about when things have needed to be looked into the last two times.

What sounds good to folks?

9. Mon-Wed -- I'm fine. That would be great.
Now Wlms adds on so much, he's almost in rotation. Wilms, how about thursday.

And, Wilms, what was that strange msg 'don't let this happen to the news with a blank page earlier in the week?

6. Just a note of thanks for all you are doing!
It is appreciated. Possibly you already have this link, but thought I would pass it along in case you don't. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed/?name=Ohio+Recount

It is news feeds for the Ohio recount which also picks up related election reform, etc. Someone posted it on the Kerry website just after the election, I often check it to look for election news.

You may be able to tweak it to pick up other states, etc.

Again, thanks to all for taking the time to research and share.

10. Thanks for this link! Feel free to help us post any time !
also if you or others don't want to help on a regular basis you could just let us know if you are available to substitute for regulars when they are out of town or tied up with friends and family.

11. Thank you for reading ! please remember to help us out by nominating
the daily news thread whenever you get the chance. That is a very helpful job that only takes a couple of mouse clicks and gets the news to a lot more folks!!
Also be sure and post discussions and actions that you see on DU that relate to our topics!

13. Thanks Roj! What I am looking for in this thread is general info
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 10:32 PM by Melissa G
Wilms suggested that it was time for me to run a thread to ask where folks were generally.. You and Wilms have been great about helping out. Do you feel up to a couple of day regular weekly commitment or should we keep revolving every week.
Auto has agreed to hold the fort Monday - Wed. That leaves four days to cover. Any ideas for what you would like to do on a regular basis?

14. So what it looks like we need to know right now is if the regular folks
want weekly or rotating shifts.
If we do weekly I could take Thursdays.
If we rotate, I could do either a full Th- Sun week shift or a weekend shift.
How does this work for others?

I have kid stuff all day so I will check back in this evening.
Best,
Melissa

Is a rotating schedule or weekly schedule better for you and what days would work best?
