Is the voting equipment in your state legal? Is there a looming purchase
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 02:01 PM by FogerRox
in your state?

1)Find out what machines your state is considering for purchase. If they don't have the 2002 certification, they may not be eligible for HAVA moneys. They must be handicapped accessible and meet error rate requirements. Title III, section 301 HAVA.
2)They must be handicapped accessible and meet error rate requirements, or said voting equipment cannot be used for Federal elections---. Title III, section 301 HAVA.
Here is a link to HAVA- read it, learn it if you haven't already.
Of particular interest should be:
1)Title I: Replacement of lever machines.
2) Title III, sections 301, 302, 303.
3) Title 4, section 401, enforcement

1. We're very backward here in Canada
We use paper ballots and count them by hand. We do that because we're very primitive and um... we hate your freedom.

2. Many parts of VA are buying up these machines and I am afraid
it is going to change what could have been a blue take-over. I would like to stop the trend and change the already bought machines. Where do I start?

3. See if they meet Federal AND state certification.
Also, make sure they are HAVA compliant.

5. if the pruchase hasnt happened yet--- start here
1) contact your local county elections official.
A) ASk if they will be buying new equipment, if yes-- what machines?
Get the exact model number.
B) does your home state have a voter verified paper record law,
if yes-- the voting equipment(if its a touchscreen or DRE)
should have a printer available.
2) compare the voting machine to the links I have provided.
A) is your machine on the NASED list?
B) is 1990 or 2002 certified?
3)Most counties buy voting equipment- sometimes the state
does it, though. Find put about this process, if your
county legislaters are responsible for buying voting equip.
attend meetings, network with and exchange emails & telephone #'s
with these people. Do the same with your county election officials.
3) Find out if your town has an online message board-- join it.
Use it to meet like minded folks.
4) contact universities & colleges in your area, look for professors
who may have expertise in computers and & software-- they very
likely will be like minded individuals.
