Blackwell/LoParo say Democrats' report a "bald-faced fabrication"

Democrats' report targets Ohio election

JOHN McCARTHY

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Black voters reported twice as many problems at the polls than whites in the 2004 presidential election in Ohio, according to a new report by the Democratic National Committee.

The state's chief elections official countered that Census figures showed blacks in Ohio voted at a higher rate than nationally and that the DNC report was nothing more than a political attack.

...snip

The Census figures cast doubt on the Democrats' data, said Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican.

"It's a bald-faced fabrication. The facts just don't match with what the report's conclusions are. Ohio had record turnout in 2004 and it was across the board," LoParo said.

1. Yeah, they had record turnout because of all the Bush voters.
Funny how * doesn't inspire such pilgrimages anywhere else.

Dem-sponsored survey claims problems for 1 in 4 Ohio voters in '04

By Jessica Wehrman

jwehrman@coxnews.com

WASHINGTON | A survey sponsored by the Democratic National Committee concluded that Ohio's 2004 presidential election was riddled with problems — including long lines, unreliable touchscreen voting machines or illegal requests for identification — that resulted in massive voter suppression.

The survey found that 28 percent of Ohio voters reported some problem with their 2004 voting experience.

Under federal law, the only voters who can be asked for identification are those voting in their first federal election who have registered by mail but did not provide identification in their registration application.

The survey, released Wednesday, indicated problems were more acute for young voters and black voters. Twice as many black voters reported problems, while voters between the ages of 18 and 54 were more likely to be forced to vote provisionally than voters older than 55.

The report did not suggest any widespread fraud that misallocated votes from U.S. Sen. John Kerry to President George W. Bush.

One survey finding found 2 percent of voters who went to the polls on Election Day left their polling locations because of the long lines — approximately 129,543 lost votes. The survey found those voters would have likely divided evenly between Bush and Kerry.

RNC Chair Ken Mehlman referred to the report in a statement as "pure political fiction."

6. Let 'em howl.

I was disappointed that they pretty much discounted the fraud issue but if it couldn't be proved, I'd rather have them going with something they're sure of than get shot down over allegations that can't be backed up.

If you're going to take a swing at the king you better be sure he's going down hard.

If the Republicans are happy about this, it sure isn't showing.

10. bklyncowgirl, I agree and here's how I know you're right.
Look at all the grief TIA, eomer and the other "math gurus" take over just pointing out the obvious on the exit polls. People come to DU from far and wide to challenge the obvious, to say that the emperor truly does have on a fine outfit. Why? Because they know that when this one gets out, there will be some serious problems.

The case has been made but the audience needs to be ready. Each point * drops below his 42-43% current level we come close to a willing and attentive audience. Imagine what would be happening to Arnie S in CA, who is at 37%, if there had been the type of evidence we've got here. They'd be after him with the torch and pitch fork crowd, nail that Frankenstein.

People will want someone to blame and who better than the "someones" who participated in and facilitated (before or after the fact) the theft of election 2004.

:hi:

7. As long as we
aren't being played, because I just can't see anything in that report that would make a Repug worry about it so much, that he would even make a statement about it. I hope I'm wrong.

9. They're already griping about the report. Like a guilty crook whose
caught, they start defending multiple past crimes. Unfortunately, this place GDR, with a few exceptions (and you know what I'm talking about...haha) is well ahead of the party bureaucracy on this issue. This report would have been a disaster, keep in mind, if there had not been huge pressure on DNC from DU and other voting rights activists.

If we are being played, well you know what that would mean, there would be Hell to pay by the players ("Hate the player not the game!"). We'll take care of that business after we let them come the other 1/2 way across the bridge.

Keep the faith!

11. Yes and thank you meganmonkey. My mood took a temporary
nose dive after I read this earlier today. It just seemed to typical. But you don't drive looking through a rear view mirror. I think people want to believe the worst, and how can they go wrong.

You did scare me for about 30 seconds:rofl:
