Census report: Nevada ranks poorly in voter turnout

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Being a battleground state in November's general election did little to draw more Nevadans to the polls, according to a new report.

According to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau, 59 percent of eligible voters in Nevada turned out to vote in the presidential election, putting Nevada 44th nationally in voter turnout.

The figures show that in Nevada, senior citizens are still the most likely to vote. Almost seven of every 10 eligible voters in Nevada between the ages of 65 and 74 cast a ballot, according to an analysis of the estimates.

8. That has to be the most hilarious assertion I've run across.

Rural Nevada is just about as regressive as you can get aside from the native americans (just look at the local press at Minden on the Carson River). The home lands movement has its roots there, and if my memory serves, they are not above bombing forest rangers. Given the population density, that is a winner, I doubt that even Reid made more than a symbolic gesture of campaigning there.

7. The bullshit is in Washoe

I think the talley of absentee ballots is way off there given the turnout patterns in other counties. I have limited time, but am going to play with the vote count if it has not been done so already. Being just over the hill, I am very interested in what went on, so please PM me.
