Boycott Berenstain Bears authors!
In today's Philadelphia Inquirer, a LttE appeared from Michael Berenstain, son of Jan & Stan Berenstain and the illustrator of many of their books. In the letter, he said:

*********************************
Slim victory in Pa.

In his Oct. 5 commentary, "Bush played it to the hilt," Todd Gitlin repeats a curious myth that has grown up rapidly since the election, that a bright spot for Democrats in their defeat appeared "in Pennsylvania, where the Democrats were able to improve on their 2000 margin of victory." Al Gore's margin of victory over George Bush in Pennsylvania in 2000 was 4.19 percent. John Kerry's 2004 margin was 2.17 percent, a victory, certainly, but scarcely, according to my math, an improvement.

Michael Berenstain
Upper Makefield
*********************************

Michael Berenstain is also the author of "christian" books, whatever that means.

His (and I assume his parents') support for the * regime warrants adding them to the list of people/corporations that should be boycotted by those who support democracy in the US.

Make sure you do not buy any Berenstain Bear products, particularily with Xmas on the horizon. The battle now is economic, people. Hit them where it hurts.

2. Those books suck anyway.
I won't let my kid near them. Low Quality stories and lame art.

10. In defense of the Barenstein Bears
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 11:12 AM by Jack Rabbit
When my two sons were younger, I would often check books out of the library and read to them.

It should be recognized that there were two versions of the Berenstein Bears. The older Bernestein books were really delightful. I enjoyed reading those to the boys. Later, the Berenstein Bears became commercialized. I think there was a television series that hastened the cheapening of the Bears. The difference between this later, commerialized version and the older, more literate version was profound. It was not a change for the better.

Those later Berenstein Bears books fit the description you give them. They were trash.

As for boycotting the Berenstein Bears, I think we have bigger fish to fry. Let's start an international campaign to divest in war profiteers like Halliburton and US Corporate media like NewsCorp (Fox) Time Warner (CNN).

4. HMMM, bush supporter, and children's author, does that make anyone
else question who is trying to "educate" our children and about what?

6. Dear God! Whoever would have thought the creators
of such beloved schlock would be Republicans!

Next we'll learn Uncle Wally was a right-winger.

7. I hear that the 12 Apostles
supported Christian values and wrote "Christian" books. Maybe we should burn the Bible too....just to play it safe...

12. I believe the original poster was commenting on...
... the Berenstains' alleged support for the Bush Regime, and said nothing regarding religion, Christ, Christianity, etc. Nor did the original poster suggest a mass bonfire of Berenstain books.

Rather, he/she simply suggested that we withdraw economic support from those who would then funnel some portion of the money we've given them to perpetuating the Right-Wing agenda.

Who said anything about burning books? That is the tactic of the repukes.

Take your seven posts and go back where you belong.

9. Wow, so I guess my theory is wrong
I had noticed that one of the windows on their little cartoon house looks just like a peace sign. I guess that was totally accidental.

11. I've never liked the series.
And I won't buy any. My daughter's favorites are Dr. Seuss and Baby Einstein. Anyone know about Baby Einstein? Julie...Aigner-Clark is the creator.

14. Baby Einstein!
Yeah, they're great. We have the video "Baby Shakespeare." Great poetry, music, enchanting toys. The kids still like it when they get older.
