2. Was it my imagination or was the mailing by Republicans
a farce?

If so CNN should eat this report.

3. I think the mailings were a farce...
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 09:07 PM by dzika
I don't remember the details exactly. Some of the addresses they listed for students were wrong and so all of those were returned in one case. In other cases, many people would not sign for official looking documents from the RNC and so those were returned.

Of course, Ken Blackwell did the RNC the great favor of scrubbing the voter registrations at the last minute.

CNN tries to make the video clip look like what they are doing is fair. The thing that gets me is the amount of organization (and white people) in the voter challenger training. This is a very sophisticated operation that rivals trainings in any fortune 500 company. You can see that they have the best equipment, facilities and planning. The Dems mostly had lip service.

This is the realization of a vision of "dirty tricks" that Karl Rove started teaching in the 70's.

7. They have a LOT more corporate money.
Want to kill the GOP? Revoke corporate personhood. BAM- corps can no longer contribute politically in any way. at. all.

Corporations are not persons, they have no vote, and thus they have no place in our political process, in any way. This includes lobbying.

Corporations must be considered nonpersons legally and from a social standpoint if we are ever to reclaim a nation and system by, of, and for the People. We are a democracy, but corporations, being businesses, fire people for trying to organize in a democratic way (see WalMart for details). Thus, they are, at their base operating levels, anti American, even totalitarian, at least internally; they may be allowed to exist, but always with the dark cloud of dissolution hanging over their heads and threatening every action they take and every decision they make.

Corporate personhood must be eliminated if we are to bring an end to corruption in politics in general.

8. I do not know the name of the person in the news piece doing
the bit act with the envelopes, but when the fairness doctrine was the law, a person showing an envelope, an article from print media or any print media being shown as evidence, a close-up of the media needed to be seen so a viewer could read the material for themselves. This was intended to be so a person could not go on stage and have a bunch of letters with qwertyuiop<\>\ type on them and say they mean something. This is what I think that was happening when this guy(name?) was doing in the news piece, which CNN should eat.

11. In the
video "Stolen Election 2004" there's a part where it's CNN and they said that OVER NIGHT a judge ruled that republicans can challenge people. No mention of democrats doing so. Just republicans. They got through at the last minute. So this whole thing is just nonsense I think. A setup that didn't go through with the plans. You can see the "Stolen Election" video at http://www.bushflash.com/media.html I'm sure y'all already have seen that one.

12. Exactly
I think they probably faked the mailing thing out so they could claim that. I saw a video from John Conyers' site where some guy was saying points along the lines in the video. His name is John Fund and here's the video. You need quicktime: http://www.conyersblog.us/archives/fund.mov

5. The perfect antidote for this evil - Jesse Jackson's comment on Nov 2.
Jesse Jackson on Election Day:

"Suppose 500 black folks came into a white neighborhood to challenge votes. It would be totally unacceptable. We will not surrender in the face of this madness."

6. There were two different kinds of challenges on Ohio.
The first: The Repubs in Ohio filed in many county pre-election challenges to about 35,000 total registrations statewide, as I recall. At least in some cases, these challenges were based on the Repubs sending a letter or campaign literature to the registration address and having it returned by the postal service. Democratic litigation argued that registrants cannot be removed from the rolls just for failure to reply to a letter, there are additional protections. And that many mistakes in registration address were caused by clerical mistakes at the Board of Elections.

In at least one county, the pre-election challenges were successful in removing from the rolls many college students at a black university, as I recall. In Summit County (Akron), however, a Democratic member of the Board of Elections was able to embarrass and split the Repubs, threatened to seek an indictment of the Repubs who had filed the challenges, and got all the challenges dismissed in that county.

The second kind of challenge was the Repub "challengers" at the polling place, who showed up with lists of voters to challenge but usually did not successfully challenge any voters that I know of.

Look for the Repubs to refine both tactics at the next Ohio election.

13. You're right on that
It doesn't give them the right. Do college students usually tell if they moved to a dorm or something on campus? I live at home so I don't know.

14. The black students who did not get to vote were from Central State
University, a black college in Greene County OH. Katrina Sumner told me she believed they were purposely given the wrong information as to what to put down as their college address.

This is the kind of story that needs to be told. But by whom? The MSM is not doing their job.

16. maybe a Central Ohio blogger could investigate and tell the story
The story has to be told as a story, not dry facts. Moderate repubs would be ashamed if they knew the extent of the minority disenfranchisement.

I would love to put individual photos of disenfranchised voters holding up signs of their own making detailing how they coyuldn't vote on http://bushcheated04.com

The problem is finding the people who could not vote.
