If Kerry doesn't want to fight for the job, is there any basis for the VP taking over the fight between the election and the seating of the electors? The Constitution seems vague on this. But if Kerry quits and Edwards takes over, theoretically, the Kerry-Edwards electors could switch and go with Edwards.

1. guessing
I have no idea on the official law on this, but I would highly doubt it. People were not voting for Edward to be president, they were voting for Kerry.

2. It's up to the electors
In 1976, one Ford elector voted for Reagan.

In 1988, one Dukakis elector voted for Bentsen for President and Dukakis for VP.

In 2000. one Gore elector refused to vote for anyone.

5. Kerry's concession is not binding.
However, his apparent inaction since conceding doesn't make it look like he really wants the job very much in the first place.

6. I have to agree with Tuvor + Edwards would never step over Kerry - althoug
I wish he would.

At the very least Edwards can step in for the recount in Florida and
Ohio and elsewhere.

It has to be done be a candidate...and he's one of the two candidates
on that ticket
